Does anyone have any good suggestions for games that feature great single player AND multiplayer? I'm probably only going to get one or two games with the console so I kinda want to have the best of both worlds :D

I'm european and I also bought a USA Nintendo 3DS.
You should know that "single cart play" multiplayer will never work with your australian friends and their PAL Nintendo 3DS.
Also and more importantly, not all games will work in local multiplayer even with each player having a cart.
So far I tried :

Mario Kart 7 - Not Working
Star Fox 64 3D - Not Working
Dead or Alive Dimensions - Not Working
Zelda 4 Swords 25th anniversary - Not Working
Super Mario 3D Land Streetpass - Not Working

Street Fighter 4 - Working
Resident Evil Mercenaries - Working
Pokedex 3D - Working
Streetpass Mii Plaza - Working

Also all the game that have Online multiplayer are working worldwide without any problem.

It's very frustrating not being able to play Mario Kart 7 with friends in the bus or in the train...

That doesn't bother me very much because my Brother is the only other person I know who has a 3DS. As long as I can have decent SinglePlayer and WiFi that works then I'll be happy.

I don't really see the point of getting a US 3DS, so far they have pretty much the same games, not including SMT Devil Survivor Overclocked (US only for now) and One Piece (Europe only)....
Anyways, so far not many games have that function, besides a couple fighting games like Dead or Alive Dimensions, Super Street Fighter 4 and Mario Kart 7, I don't know of any others, but there's this rpg from SE comming out in a couple months that will feature single player and mutiplayer, called something ruins, forgot the name.

I have to disagree with you on the US 3DS thing but it's honestly a matter of opinion. And just to clarify I can get a US 3DS for over half price compared to the Price it sells in Australia so to me the US 3DS is the best option I have, even though I've always planned to import a US 3DS.

wait... different region of MK7 can't play local multiplay together? really? :(
Seriously? And I was looking forward to playing MK7 with my little brother this summer (he lives in Singapore) :(
Maybe I'll have to get a US 3DS (Singapore has NTSC-U consoles I believe) just so I can play with him (and import some games before they come out in Europe :P) Seems like a waste though when I already have a 3DS.

Not a lot of people I know own in real life own one either, but it's only a matter of time until most have one, it gets more tempting to people the more good games come out :P

A Majority of my friends who play video games are Teenagers and above and are either into the whole COD and/or Battlefield Scene and refuse to accept any other game or consoles existence unless it has one of the two game series' I just mentioned.

a good thing to note though is that region-locking is non-existent on online games. you can play online with any version, be it NTSC, PAL or JPN.

And yeah I'm glad Nintendo didn't Region-Lock wifi ^_^

Just a little FYI, Singapore has 99.5% NTSC-U/C for Nintendo platforms. The only thing is there's no CN and they are most of the time more expensive than the US (Now, a US 3DS retails for S$250, down S$150 since that price drop).

Although Singapore's official coding is NTSC-J, it doesn't normally stick with it due to language issues (exception - Xbox 360, solely NTSC-J).

Really?
There are some good deals such as when Dicksmith did their 'Dick Does Christmas' Deal and sold 3DS' for $190.
Oh and I suggest to get an Australian 3DS' unless you are a heavy online shopper and don't buy much games offline.

I can get a 3DS for around 120-130 dollars US. And I do most shopping online.

As for Mario Kart 7, there is a workaround:
1. Create a new Community.
2. Let your Local friends register onto that Community.
3. Let's Play Locally......Online!

What's the point?, this wont allow them to play without connecting to the internet :S (Not a workaround)
