In a Tweet by the official Sony Twitter account, it seems that a 'LittleBigPlanet Karting' game is in development, nothing else was mentioned other than the announcement itself but they've promised to shed some more light on the game soon.

Here's what the Tweet said:
“Update: we can confirm that LittleBigPlanet Karting is in fact in development and we look forward to sharing more on the game soon.”

The game is expected to be heavily based on ModNation Racers, which sees you create your own tracks and cars in a cartoonish manner, similar to the style of LittleBigPlanet.

Sony already has the ModNation Racers franchise, so making a LittleBigPlanet devoted to kart racing seems a bit redundant. Also, considering how the LittleBigPlanet franchise is all about freedom and openness, and that the second game could let you create in different genres, a LittleBigPlanet game focused solely on kart racing seems like a step backward.

Honestly, I'm not really seeing the purpose behind this decision. My only guess is that they're somehow under the impression that slapping LittleBigPlanet on the next ModNation Racer game will somehow boost sales. If that's the case, though, I doubt it will work; I think most people will be content sticking with their copy of LBP2.

it might be unique as is the main theme of all LBP titles.
as AW said, crash kart racing?, i think someone said it was the best racing game after which mario kart was inspired and then mario kart became the best racing game.

i bet customization and multiplayer would be handled wonderfully.

This sounds awesome xP
I reckon this will have a real twist on the traditional racing style, maybe incorporating puzzles into the races using the laps as a time limit sort of thing haha, I dont know but it sounds cool

Little Big Planet has been known to have great customization...
I hope it's customizable to the extent that you can make a tree course where the leaves tilt the further you drive on them and when most of the racers drive off of it, they get flinged up onto another branch.
And it would be awesome to re-created all the Mario Kart tracks.
I will get this if the gameplay is good.
I never buy any racing games other then Mario Kart..

This should of been an expansion pack for the LBP. Hell LBP2 should of been an expansion pack. I blame Capcom and sports games for console players being used to being sold the same game twice.

Actually, if they do the physics well, this has a lot of potentials. As the previous dude said about trees and leaves.

Crash Team Racing ->September 30, 1999

Yes, indeed. Crash did inspire Mario Kart.
