In September 2011, Square Enix announced at Sony’s PlayStation Vita conference that they would release Final Fantasy X for the Vita and PlayStation 3, to celebrate the game’s 10th anniversary. At the time, we referred to the game as a “remake”.

This isn’t quite the case. Final Fantasy X will not be a remake, it will be an HD Remaster, similar to other PlayStation 2 titles (the Metal Gear Solid and Devil May Cry games, for instance) that have been given high-definition PlayStation 3 ports in recent times.

Taiwanese website, Gamer, got the news at the 2012 Taipei Game Show straight from Square Enix’s Shinji Hashimoto (via FF-Reunion), who told the site: “It’s being developed as an HD Remaster, but the visuals will be much more beautiful than before. Please look forward to it!”

Prior to this, Final Fantasy X producer, Yoshinori Kitase, told M! Games magazine in Germany that Final Fantasy X for Vita and PlayStation 3 is early in development.

Listen to my story. This may be our last chance. I don't want to wait 8 years for a remake. HD remastering is more-than good enough. Nothing lackluster about it. Praise be to Yevon that we'll be getting it in this half of the decade.

When Nintendo releases a "Remake" of Zelda OOT with nothing new except better graphics, everything's fine. When they release a "Remake" of StarFox with nothing new except better graphics, it's also fine. When Konami releases a "Remake" of Metal Gear Solid 3 with arguable worse graphics, everything's fine... but when Square Enix releases a port of FFX with better graphics, they should be ashamed! How dare they!

There's a difference in remaking an engine because it wouldn't be able to support better graphics otherwise or remaking it because it would be too resource-monging for the platform and "just updating graphics" - apparently FFX did not require re-coding so why bother and waste money when the final effect will be the same?

Because I want more story details and new artwork. Square-Enix always adds new content for their remakes. It's expected.

Well, they could have at least added a little extra, like a boss or something...

But I guess it's better than nothing.

I am guessing they are going to add all of the PAL version extras to the US version if that counts for anything considering they were added after the game came out in the US and thats why we missed out. (at least i really hope they do)

Nobody says that there won't be any extras that are separate from the main story arc. Perhaps they will add content in a standard Extras option in the menu that'd be unlockable in the course of the game.
All we know now is that the game's a port - this doesn't mean that extra content will not be available for it.

Huh. A Valwinated title.
Copy-paste kinda nullifies the fun part of it.

I took the liberty of removing the biased opinionated words in the title. Hope that's ok with the mods. I don't think it's necessary or suitable in regards to user submitted news to tack on personal opinion and bias. Feel free to express your opinion, but i'd suggest you keep it out of the news post and title (save it for a subsequent post if you must and keep the original clean and unbiased). For professionalism and all.

I wouldn't necessarily peg this as lackluster, but disappointing. At least given what we were lead to believe. I actually somewhat enjoy the original. Not anywhere near my favorite in the series (which is 6 incidentally) but i'd say it's pretty good. So this will at least be as good as the original but with sharper visuals.

Huh. A Valwinated title.

There's nothing wrong with the title, it's just what the news report.
Show me where the word "lackluster" is in the source. Thanks.

The title has been changed, but even if it's not there, it's what some people may describe it. No need to start flaming Valwin everytime he posts a thread any of you don't like.
I can see that.
It is, by many, frowned upon to introduce one's bias / opinion directly in the name of an article (and the article itself for that matter, although it doesn't happen often).
If he wants to state his opinion, there's nothing wrong with that. But just leave the actual article free of any of that, eh?

Fair enough.
