So, my Wii has this weird problem, it doesn't read Dual Layer games like SSBB or Metroid: Other M, but it reads single layer games like Super Mario Galaxy or Zelda Skyward Sword with absolutely no problems, no errors at all. However, when insert a dual layer game, my Wii just makes 2 click sounds and stops spinning the disc.

I have my reasons to belive it was a dirty lens (back when SSBB was still new, i had problems getting it to read, as it would stop reading the disc while playing or wouldn't detect it at all, using the cleaner kit solved the problem) but no amount of cleaning seems to fix it, so i don't really know what to do.

The question is; is it a laser problem? or could it be something else?

Any help is appreciated.

Oh yeah that's a drive problem. The problem is the old wii drives are not built for reading dual layer games, you should take a look at usb loading instead.

Definitely try usb loading. I also have one of the first ones that came out and it read smash bros fine but after awhile it wouldnt read the disc anymore so had to run a usb loader. Also its so much FASTER loading off of usb than disc.

Tis a laser problem caused by a dirty lens.
Quite a few people had issues with this when Brawl was released. Specifically launch Wiis. People had to send their Wiis to Nintendo to get the lens cleaned, though honestly you can find tutorials online to clean it yourself.

As the two who almost Ninja'd me have said, softmod your wii (if it isn't already) and look into USB loading it from a hard drive or something. It's a hell of a lot more efficient.

My wii is already soft modded, heck, i even soft modded it when the Twilight hack was still new. USB loading is no problem, in fact i already do it, i play games just fine through a portable HDD i had laying around, but i was looking into installing Brawl (and Xenoblade when it comes out in the US) and some other games into my Wii using USB Loader GX, and just downloading them isn't exactly the best option for me here because of the horrible download speeds over here.

Im looking for a fix because, well, me and my friends love playing Brawl, but i can't play it because it won't read it, and downloading it would take a lot of time (and mostly because of Xenoblade, i want to buy a copy when its released, but if it wont read it, then it's pretty much going to sit on my shelf)

Well your only options then are to either clean the laser, or send it to Nintendo to do it for you. I would suggest after either, that you rip the game so you don't have to rely on the disk. The less your Wii reads disks, the longer it'll be able to.

Well, seeing as using the official cleaning kit didn't fix the problem, would i be right in assuming that i'm going to have to open up my Wii in order to clean the lens?
