I've been trying to update it for about a month or so now and nothing I try seems to work. I've followed every guide available and it never seems to work for me. I'm running the stock ROM or whatever and the only thing I've done is rooted my tablet, nothing else. Even when I unroot it the tablet won't update. It downloads the update file, I tell it to install it, the tablet reboots and then when it's applying the update with the icon of the little android guy and the progress bar starts to fill. One the bar is about 1/4 of the way through, the progress bar disappears and the only thing on the screen is the android guy but now with an orange exclamation mark inside a triangle above his head. The tablet just freezes like that until I do a hard reset.

I'm getting unbelievably frustrated here. My tablet used to update perfectly fine even after I had rooted it, but now suddenly it refuses to update and nothing I do fixes it. I'm pretty much looking at my only option being to just blow it all away and start from scratch, but I don't really feel like doing that, again...

I don't know if my rage is coming across clear in this post or not, but I'm on the edge of just breaking everything around me right now. My quality of life is absolute garbage and now one of the only things that was still working no longer works. I've posted this on at least a dozen different forums and tried all the various guides that they've sent me and I've just about had it. Even that XDA forum doesn't have anything useful, of course the way things are organized there you'd be hard pressed to find anything useful there anyways even if there was something.

This is the last straw, if I can't get this damn tablet to work then it could very well be hitting the trash soon.

The only way i could get official updates on my stock rom (rooted) android phone, was to install the updates through clockworkmod, Otherwise, like yours, it hung after the reset, trying to update, and a hard reset was required.

You can't probably update because you are still rooted. How exactly did you unroot? Is your S-Off or S-on?
but this says otherwise....
My tablet used to update perfectly fine even after I had rooted it

Even when I unroot it the tablet won't update.

Wild guess, but assuming you have Clockwork Mod maybe you have to do a full wipe before you update.

I don't have clockwork mod. The only thing I've done to my tablet is root it. Updates were working fine for a while, but in the last month or so I've been unable to complete updates, even after unrooting it.

I am going to guess that asus added a check to prevent the update on rooted devices since I read that many companies are doing that lately & depending on how you unrooted it there might be some traces left so try backing up your stuff using something like titanium backup & doing a factory reset .

If that doesn't help then install Clockwork Mod Recovery and either A)Flash a clean rom & update from it or B)Forget about official updates & find yourself a nice custom rom and flash it .

Okay, I'm not sure if my unrooting is actually working. I'm using the tool on this page, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1185104 which is the same tool I used to root my transformer in the first place. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong here, it should be working but the superuser app remains even after telling the program to remove it and unroot the tablet.

hey man.
let's start from the beginning okay?
What device do you have?
What firmware is it on?
can you boot to recovery? (do you know how?)
what recovery do you have?
are there lots of options and something at the top that says "Clockwork mod"?
if you still have clockwork mod you are still rooted.

what are you trying to update to?
an official OTA update?

from what i understand it's an ASUS Transformer. Is it on honeycomb 3.2?
get back to me

Okay I'll answer as much as I can there.

Asus Transformer
Android 3.2.1
I've booted to recovery before, I'd have to look up the process to do it again. But off the top of my head I definitely remember there not being anything about "clockwork mod." I think there were only two options in the recovery, one being to delete everything and another for something I can't quite remember. After waiting about 30 seconds on the recovery screen a third option comes up to boot normally or something along those lines. But I've never installed the clockwork mod on my tablet and never observed anything that would suggest it is present.
Build Number is 8.6.5.13

The update I'm trying to get is an official one from Asus. Occasionally my Tablet will detect an update available on it's own, but even then I encounter the same problem. Most of the time I just do a manual search for update and then it finds that an update is available and automatically downloads it. I can tell it to postpone installation or to install immediately, but no matter what I do the update never finishes.

This is one of my latest posts incase you missed it:

alright then.
what you need to do, or at least would be best, would be to root it and install clockwork mod recovery.
once you have the recovery you can flash any rom you like. there should be a dump of the OTA rom on xda in the dev section.

can you manage that?
