I can't in this particular case, I have to use the LG drive... It's a tad complicated, bear with me please. I just need to know if that drive will work or not?

If you can't mod the Wii, what do you want to do with the images then?
As the first images were dumped with 1 or 2 models of LG drives, it should work. Although I'm not totally sure if your model is the right one. And I think nobody checked newer drives as everybody pretty much uses a Wii for dumping because that is a lot less painless.

Sigh... I can't believe people can get so fucking off-topic.

The guy that needs to send me an ISO dos not want to mod his Wii because he's paranoid that he'd brick it, so I am trying to get him an alternative way to rip it without touching his Wii, i.e. the LG drive.

EDIT: If you now want to lecture me about how it's safe to mod your Wii, I KNOW. HE DOES NOT WANT TO DO IT.

And yes, it's a new game, I would have gotten it from the internet by now were it not.

Can we now PLEASE drop this fucking "HURR DURR JUST RIP IT USING UR WII DERP" thing? I just need to know which drive can read newer Wii games, please.

In that case, we're not allowed to help you PIRATE.

And instead of modding the Wii to rip it, just make sure he's on the latest System Menu, then use either LetterBomb or SmashStack (or game exploit of choice) to directly launch CleanRip.
With the SmashStack method, nothing on the Wii is touched, just the SD Card.

Thank you very much. I didn't know about the LetterBomb exploit.

LetterBomb enable the AHBPROT flags?
Cleanrip requires these flags to access the disc reader.

That's why it works only on HBC1.0.8+ with the tag in the meta.xml

Don't forget that using the LG drive*, it will require 3hours of dumping process, then it will be scrambled, you need to unscramble the iso before it could be burned/read.
The latest unscrambler (0.4) has a bug and adds bytes that you need to delete with an hexeditor, or find the v0.3 (which I don't have anymore, if someone still has it, I would like it). But there exist other unscrambler without the bug.
For someone who don't want to mod his wii, I think it's a lot of work.

If Hackmii installer enables AHBPROT. Why shouldn't cleanrip work?

Unsure, definitely trying once I get my wii.! Of course unmodded.

I don't know if the hardware access is in the installer or the exploit.

If it's in the installer, then it's closed sources and only Hackmii installer can access hardware without the homebrew channel.
If it's the exploit, then maybe they included it.
