Let's be honest - GBATemp ads didn't really work much for me on my tablet. All that was always displayed for me was a blank rectangle between random stuff with the provider's logo.

So I've resorted to using an adblocking DNS. No, I cannot whitelist websites unlike with a traditional PC adblocker, no, it isn't specifically for GBATemp - it's because Google has suddenly decided that I need testosterone pills and won't shut up about them on other websites.

So please, stop showing me the banner. You still won't get anything from me if I disable the DNS, or do the blank rectangles count towards ad impressions?

How am I entitled in this post? If ads were working properly, I could maybe understand that but GBATemp is not losing money right now.

Very much the sound of someone entitled. The problem is on your end, not ours.

Do you also run two anti-viruses?
Six, actually.

It's such a non-issue that complaining about it takes more effort than just ignoring it.

Then click the "Continue without supporting us" button then. Or disable your adblocker alt pay for an adfree experience.

What? Why in the would would you do that? I can't imagine the performance hit running multiple anti-virus and adblocking apps at the same time. People seriously do this? Or was that a prime example of sarcasm not working well online?

uBlock Origin alone here. Zero ads and zero anti-adblock popup.

@Ondrashek06 That's not even a real anti-adblock locking someone out. Just a polite reminder that servers have to be paid somehow.
DNS based blocking is almost guaranteed to trip scripts which verify that all desired elements have been delivered. Dedicated adblockers or even script blockers can filter better.
But I still failed when trying to trigger this one in an empty browser profile. Maybe it takes some time?
============

You know... If all, or at least many, active users would be willing to pay a little all the ads weren't necessary.

man gbatemp is going down the gutter with this stupid ad pop up. shame that whoever is in charge of this website is putting this crap on the site. makes gbatemp alot more annoying to check out throughout the week.

guess they dont want page clicks or consitstent users.

utter shame to the person who coded this in.

FYI our ad network has implemented this without our consent.

We are currently debating our options.

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

  • cearp @ cearp:
@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
  • cearp @ cearp:
It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space
