Citra 3DS emulator is also shutting down development, GitHub repo taken down

emu.png

Quietly following on the heels of the injunction ruling against Yuzu emulator that resulted in its removal and ceased development, popular Nintendo 3DS emulator Citra is following suit. Yuzu's parent company, Tropic Haze LLC, is also the owner of the development team for Citra 3DS emulator, and because of the recent ruling, Citra has also met the same fate. As of current writing, Citra has been removed from download on its official website, and the Citra GitHub repository has been taken down as well.

An official statement from Bunnei, a representative for both Citra and Yuzu, was posted on the Discord channel for Yuzu, saying that they never intended to allow piracy to impact Nintendo, and that playing games on "unauthorized hardware" is harmful, so development on both emulators will cease as of today. Citra's Discord server has also locked itself down, following the announcement.

- Streaming Policy
- How they deal with "old" Disney Fans
- How they threat "old" Disney Stuff
- Wokeness in Disneymovies
etc. etc.
I loved "my" Disney from the first "Snow White" Movie until.....😡
Yes I understand that very much, Disney have not doing good jobs to upload more old Disney shows on Disney +. so I understand you are disappointed with that, I'm as well since it's many show I miss watching like Tarzan TV serie and Aladdin TV series.

Why does this happen? first Yuzu and now Citra, I really liked that emulator since I could play free Switch games on my gaming laptop and the same goes for Citra. Now I have to keep the 3DS so that I can play 3DS games, even though I really want to sell it. I find it very annoying. Forte me to get the Wii U or Nintendo gamecube before Nintendo shuts down Dolphine and Cemu. Well, that gives me the reason to never sell a Nintendo switch again.
Citra is a product of the Yuzu devs. They probably voluntarily gave up Citra.
CEMU won't get shut down because CEMU doesn't need keys to run. Decrypted WiiU roms exists. This is the Switch scenes' biggest oversight, decrypting roms on the fly is a big no-no.

I'm happy Cemu and Dolphine still exist so I can play Wii U and GameCube games until I get hands on Wii U or GameCube.

Okay, that's it. Nintendo has officially pissed me off.
Same here and I hope we are getting more 3DS games now since Citra don't exist anymore.

At this point, I may actually start washing my hands from them. It's literally like watching my childhood heroes become the villains.
Become? Dude this behaviour is nothing new, just wait until you discover the time they hired people to stalk people hacking their systems. Or the time they were screwing content creators on YT any time they tried to fairly use Nintendo media. Or innumerable times they've pulled fan projects down when there was no need to.

Nintendo fucking sucks and if you continue to financially support them then you condone their bullshit.

Congratulations,Shitendo.
You are on the Way to overrule Disney as the shittiest Company of the World.😡
The main problem of Nintendo is being overly protective of its IPs, which negatively affects our community many customers here. By "customers" though it doesn't includes pirates, which by definition aren't customers and don't really get a say in any of this.
I'm sure there are other problems, sure. but that's not even close to the shittiest companies. As far as I know Nintendo doesn't have a plethora of sexual misconducts cases, and isn't known for forcing crunch on its teams. And let's not start with Disney or this will go on forever.

I'll never understand why there are fanboys who defend a multi-billion dollar company to the ends of the earth.
Not everything they do is worth defending. But the argument "it's a billion dollar company" is getting tiring too. I understand this argument when it comes to, I don't know, putting more resources on a better Pokemon game, sure. But I fail to see how that argument makes it more ok to pirate their games.
Especially not the way it was done with TotK with hundred of people taunting Nintendo and posting tons of stuff online. That was never ok, be it Nintendo or another company.

If you're going to pirate, just say you're a pirate and be done with it. The constant "justifications" make the community look bad. Emulating a new release that'll sell millions worldwide is NOT preservation.
Yes, exactly. This should be highlighted in the front page of this site. IT MAKES THE COMMUNITY LOOK BAD. It weakens every legit complain about Nintendo, their constant battle against emulation, their fear of piracy, their lack of care for preservation, down to them shutting down Melee tournaments.

Pirates are customers. They buy consoles and I'm 100% sure the success of the Switch is partially due it its easily piratable state, just like the Wii and DS.

Sexual misconduct cases are completely irrelevant to the topic.

Billion dollar company = evil company. It may sound oversimplistic and I don't wanna write an essay about it but that's just the harsh truth, you really are naive or delusional if you think otherwise.

The TotK leak gave massive free publicity to the game. And people probably bought consoles to pirate it.

I will never not support piracy for a company that is so overtly hostile towards its fans.

Pirated copy does not equal lost sale.
The ones who have intention to pirate have zero incentive to support your shitty company.
The one who want play once and be done would just rent a copy at cheap or buy second hand and resell shorty after.
There's also the folks that like to test games before they decide to buy, it has always been like that.

The mass market is made of normies not tech savvy people who knows what keys or bios are. Once this ass company start to realize that downloaded copies isn't lost sales maybe there's hope for them to exist in the next decade or two.

I do hope that a ransom /anonymous hacker group would fuck them up in order to teach them a lesson to not go messing around with people's rights. You put yourselves into this situation so manup and accept your miserable fate that is near to come if you continue to act like a-holes. I really feel sorry for companies like Insomniac Games that don't deserve what happened to them while a-holes companies like this are having their fix.

Exacly. Pirated copy does not equal lost sale, this needs to be repeated over and over (and why not highlighted in the front page of this site :glare:)

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
