GitLab has taken down the Suyu Nintendo Switch emulator

Suyu-728x410.png

Emulator takedowns continue. Not long after its first release, Suyu emulator has been removed from GitLab via a DMCA takedown. Suyu was a Nintendo Switch emulator forked from Yuzu emulator, which was the high-profile subject of a takedown by Nintendo last month. GitLab deleted Suyu's repository, stating that they'd received a takedown notice for the project. The tongue-in-cheek named emulator still has an official website up, though the Discord is not allowing new members, and the GitLab download page is gone. However, it seems a self-hosted download page is still available.

i must admit nintendo needs to be put in check (somehow) they could run rampant with striking emulators down without even setting a precident (which is just as bad) because people are too chickenshit to even try to play the role of David

Edit lol rysuyuzu how bout... RySuzujinx sounds much better i think!!! If merging the way Ryujinx loads games into Suyu everything would probaly work 100 percent??? Notice how Ryujinx boots like every game yuzu suyu can't like that problematic ninja turtles game. Also lets not forget TOTK booted/played on Ryujinx before yuzu yet no lawsuit??? Also along with Mario Wonder how do they do it? What is the difference? Like how the two emulators load titles needs to be compared then we would have thee ultimate emulator!!! Wonder if anyone who understands the code has tried such things??? Kinda makes me wanna learn how to code and or replace code if it can be done that way???

So yeah, it definitely was just a dmca request on gitlab. I think they would have had to do another lawsuit or something against Suyu ? But they couldn't have used the same arguments that they used against Yuzu, makes me think that indeed, switch emulation is fine as long as money isn't (too much) involved

I wish too that stuff like some of the UI or asynchronous caching was used in Ryujinx too but I'm not quite sure that's how that works
I'm not a programmer but I think that taking the time to compare both programs would almost mean building a 3rd emulator. Also from the very beginning both emulators didn't really had the same philosophy, Yuzu was pretty much about running games with the best speed (even if it means some « hacks ») while Ryujinx was always about accuracy when it comes to the console behavior. Hence why usually I also had less issues with Ryujinx when trying leaked games

Thank god GIT is floss and easily self hosted. Honestly, everyone relying on a big company is asking for this kind of trouble, be it github or gitlab. Now let's see what the big N will try to do. Did some quick digging and it seems their domain is registered through porkbun and the website is hosted/protected through cloudflare. My bet is N will try sending DMCA notices to them next...:glare:

Well, assuming they are self-hosting it, nintendo would have to send that DMCA notice directly to the suyu team, or (MUCH more likely) the domain registrar and server host.

An emulator gets attacked for copying/pasting code from the switch? Check
Another switch emulator comes out and calls itself a word that is pronounced "sue you" immediately afterwards and gets attacked too? Check

What was anyone expecting?

Why did people think that making another Yuzu fork was going to revive the emulator... Yuzu got taken down, and now "SUE YOU!" got taken down. Makes perfect sense.

Make the move to Riujinx damnit or emulate older games
"
Makes perfect sense."

No it doesn't Nintendo has no case and no argument in either case,
especially against suyu.
They could have had at least some argument against yuzu because they were locking fixes for first party titles like TOtK behind a paywall.
They are just coducting lawfare, they know these cases would have no merrit and would be unwinable, they are just banking on people not having enough money to fight them in court.

Ah, yes. Sadly the essence of our modern legal system. Where money allows large companies to dictate what is right and wrong against the people, no matter what the laws say.:(

They didn't settle. A settlement is something submitted through the court system. This was an agreement made outside the court system with no legal backing or follow up should either side go back on the agreement. The only thing we know about this agreement is what they've said about it since there's no court record of it.

They did settle and it was approved by a judge. The court filing is here:
