'Red Dead Redemption' PS4 and Switch port pricing is 'commercially accurate', says Take-Two CEO

switch rdr.jpg

After announcing the release of Red Dead Redemption, including its Undead Nightmare expansion, on PS4 and Switch, the $50 pricing and the non-remastered state was divisive among the fanbase. During a Take-Two earnings call following the announcement, IGN asked CEO Strauss Zelnick for clarifications about the pricing choice. “That's just what we believe is the commercially accurate price for it,” Zelnick replied.

IGN followed by asking if Undead Nightmare was the reason for its $50 price, to which Zelnick said that the expansion “was a great standalone game in its own right when it was originally released, so we feel like it's a great bundle for the first time, and certainly a great value for consumers.”

While he was vague about a potential PC release, the CEO had the following to say for the choice of a port over a remaster:

"It depends on the vision that the creative teams have for a title, and in the absence of having a powerful vision, for something that we would do with a title, we might bring it in its original form, we've done that, and in certain instances we might remaster or remake, so it really depends on the title and how the label feels about it, the platform, and what we think the opportunity is for consumers."

Why do you make so many completely thoughtless posts? There's no reason to think a PS3/360 era title will run like garbage on the Switch. Other ports from that era are proof that it should run just fine.
because there's a lot of terrible ports, from that same era, that run considerably worse than they did on the hardware from the time, especially from companies that care more about money than the end experience, like rockstar does nowadays

if ps4 can fully hold 60fps without drops, i believe many people won't mind these 50bucks
i think it's been confirmed that it'll have a 30fps cap across the board lol

Then explain why games from the PS1/PS2 era run and look like garbage on the Switch (and you know exactly what games I'm talking about).

I'll be waiting.

$50 to play an old game lower than 30 FPs? man nintenSHEEP be dumb

@My posts is over 9000!!! TBF nobody has had the chance to buy it. I'm curious how many people are going to buy it at that price anyway, especially for Switch. Middle-class has been taking a downgrade.

It should be priced at $14.99 or max $24.99, but $50? That's ridiculous.

Yet another game that'll be on the Switch which requires to download part of the game, and the other completely useless physical release: Code in a Box.

Who tf actually thought Code in a Box was a good idea? 😕 So much about caring about the environment...

Indeed. In my book, this means they had no physical release. Spryo on the switch only had spyro 1 on the cartridge, 2 and 3 were download only, which means spyro 1 is the only game that's had a physical release on the switch. And the funny thing is, I don't think they'll learn the lesson we want them to learn by not buying them.

Japan loves to use a loooot of plastic.

They wrap individual cookies inside a bag of cookies. It's almost like that for all packages of snacks that have more than one serving. A lot of it is due to the tradition of buying gifts for coworkers when you on a trip/vacation. Hasn't affected chips, yet.

I do wonder how much waste is generated by the SDG promotional materials.

But this still doesn't justify Nintendo xD
they tried more than they did lol, they added new character to dk, new stages to pikmin 3, super mario games and toad treasure tracker and so on, basically any deluxe game had more content than their wiiu counterpart, this one they had nothing, they improve nothing and even take away the multiplayer mode so you pay 50$ for a 13 yo game with less content and no changes at all.

You lot hating on Nintendo is not gonna have any effect on them.Going hybrid route was taken back in 2016.Bitching about it now not gonna have any effect. So why bother? Its like you guys do it for coping reasons.Deal with it.
Are you essentially defending a more-than-likely, dog-water port of a decade-old game, that has little improvements for 50 USD? Why even sell if it won't meet the intended "Rockstar Games" experience? I shouldn't have to remind anybody of the GTA Trilogy incident, should I?

I get the holiday deadlines, but Jesus; this current trend is turning criminal at this point.

For most of these ports they added content to compensate something else being removed, but New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe for instance is objectively a downgrade compared to its Wii U counterpart.

Rockstar doesn’t have a good track record with performance on the Switch, the thing barely runs GTA Trilogy and those are PS2-era. Now, admittedly, they’re also “remasters” and they ran like crap on just about everything, but that’s kind of the point here - not the best ports as of late.

wtf really? that's ridiculous. Ah well. It would have been nice if spyro had a physically release on switch. when nintendo closes the switch servers in a decade, all these games will not be playable. Since this is a new thing, I wonder how those lawsuits will go. That box in particular just says 2 and 3 are download-only. It says nothing about 1 needing download to finish.
