If canoe is not designed to run some games, then its not designed run all games...

The NES emulator on the NES Mini was even more spotty with its emulation... You have to live what you can get, compromise, or leave the games off the system...

the original roms are on read only memory and do not take up any usable space unless you compress them.

As far as I know those things are already 'compressed' and they use up a separate partition?

If they could be accessed easier, it might allow for even better thing... removal and modifications of the 'epilepsy' patches... but it may be impossible to modify that part of the memory... especially if it turns out to be Read Only Memory.

It seems people have already confirmed it is Read Only Memory.

why to compress the original games?
they are in a other nand sektion where you dont add your games.
they are not necessary anymore for the spacce where you add your games

sorry but thats a idiotic preference!
game is game and there is no difference between canoe and retroarch when you play it

My only issue with not being able to modify those files, is that it means in order to have uncompromised versions of the games ('no epilepsy patches'), you have to double up the roms and add in the same roms again using up space that could have been utilized for a different game...

Not entirely true, the emulation for certain chips is better in canoe, however most of the games which where those chips would matter already 'work'.

Has anyone tried using the "snes_custom_filters" mod? Is there any documentation on the arguments that are available and that need to be passed?

Also, is there a way to apply these filters to the Original 21 games?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Right, the translation by itself works fine. But, I modified one of the soundtracks; the main battle theme changes halfway through. I changed a flag so that the battle theme never changes. If you do that with the ROM hack,
the emulator won't load the game.

    ROM hack alone = okay
ROM hack plus music change = not okay

Does anyone know how can the stock games be replaced?

I have the stock Final Fantasy VI, Mario RPG and Zelda all patched (spanish translation, same size as original) and working and I'd wish to replace them, not add them as new games.

When I enter to usr/share/games I see that all files are a quite bytes only (they seem that they are shortcuts) not the entire file.

If I replace them (with filezilla) they work but if I add/restore games with hackchi, the games are the stock games again.

Same with covers, as I have a pal snes, I want to change them with pal covers... Not sure if I need same size files...

    Maybe @Cluster can help me...

    Thanks.

and? you would fond no difference in playing.
and we dont speak from a cs4 or super fx game
why compress the original games when the are not need because they are not in the space where you add the games?
the original games have it own nand space

the original games are since 2.21 in a extra nand where you only can read it

No need to compress, I was referring to the inability to 'modify' the files to remove epilepsy filters and any other 'censorship' patches that might have been added to them...

In order to play some of the games in their original way, you would need to add a second copy of the game without the patches, which then takes up space that could be used by a 'different' 'new game'.

I.E. say there is enough space for maybe 60 new games. Now if I use up some of that space add in unpatched/unmodified versions of a game take for example Yoshi's Island (which has broken graphics in Touch Fuzzy level due to epilepsy filters, or Contra III to restore the original flashing animations), that means I would be using up space for 5 games where I might have added 6-7 other different games instead. So I woujld only have spac to add 55 games rather than 60 for example.

For some people wished they could mod the original 21 with their own 'mods' and patches. Like updating FF3 to FF6 for example, without taking up 'extra' space that could have been used for a different game in the useable areas. Others would like to add the mods to Super Ghouls and Ghosts to fix the slow downs. That would be another game 'taking' up space to add a new copy where it would have been nice to have a different game instead.

It's an impossibility but it would have been nice.

I have used all the mods (They work) and they can be used on the original 21. I'm not sure what you mean about documentation that needs to be passed.

I’m curious. Is that how the SNES is originally set up from the factory? Or is it originally set up with the games copied to the other partition?

You should be able to find the frames in the retroarch menu under settings->overlay borders, or something like that.

THe snes_custom_filters allows the ability to remove scanlines etc., and I have seen reference to the use of the --no-scanlines argument which needs to be passed.

That being said, I cant seem to find a full argument list. I am also wondering if this argument can be passed to the original games.

    I hope this makes sense.

Yes, you add --no-scanlines to global commands, that's it.

    Thanks.

Are there any other arguments? I found the following, but was wondering if there were others, as well as some sort of documentation on the mod:

Argument to enable bilinear filter in 4:3 mode:
    --smooth43

Argument to disable scanlines in CRT mode (bilinear filter only):
    --no-scanlines

Argument to disable bilinear filter in CRT mode (scanlines only):
    --no-smooth
