Hello, I'm pretty new to all this kind of stuff and I was wondering on how you use the hexa stuff ?
I wanted to give dunban his monado back, like in the wii version, there was a cheat code that was letting you buy any item at any shop.
So if someone could help me, it would be very nice !

I finished the game in December, and am now playing through again in NG+. I've got a pretty good gist at save editing; I did create loads of custom Gems (thanks, @Laenthor!), and have discovered that Area Affinity lies at 0x0DF4-0DFD (with each area having two bytes - so Colony 9 is 0DF4-0DF5, Colony 6 is F6-F7, and so on).

However...whenever I try to add party members to my save, the game crashes whenever I open the main menu (i.e. press X). I don't know why that happens, when I copied what was in my "CLEAR!" save at 0x152318 to my NG+ save, exactly.
It seems like the game fails to load the character models used for the menu, since they never appear, and sometimes the screen goes all glitchy before the game crashes.
The 37-byte "Unknown" block immediately after it is filled with 00s, so...can't have anything to do with it. Truly weird.
Hello, I understand that it has been several years since your post was published, but I would be interested to know how you were able to make a "Custom Gem". I will be very grateful for your explanation.

This thread isn't helpful at all.

Hey, can you tell me how you were able to make custom gems? I've opened my save in HxD but even when looking at the offsets that were posted in this thread I can't seem to view the values the same way everyone here is viewing them. Like I know I have the Monado III equipped, but when I look at 0x3b14, it just shows up as 00s instead of "05000200" that was posted in the OP.
Did you figure it out? I want to add the Imperial Staff because that's the only thing missing from my otherwise 100% playtrough.

Did some try and error today.
0x000005F1 onwards are quests. They are sorted in order of their IDs and every quest is one byte.
00 = not accepted
01 = accepted
FE = completed
FF = completed with alternate path (Like "Financial Planning" in Colony 9 which has 2 outcomes)
Setting a quest to "00" makes it possible to accept it again. However it won't reset objectives like "Kill x Monster" and you can't turn it in. So progress is stored elsewhere

0x00000B05 onwards are affinity links between NPCs. Values Range from 00 to 07. Also sorted by IDs
00 means no link. 01 to 07 represent the strenght of the link. Description will change as well. If the value is higher than possible the game will always show the "highest" description. Values which are lower than possible will show no description above the link. Values above 07 will show "?" as emotion with description.
0x00000B07 is the link between "Dean" and "Sonia" for example

0x000005B6 - 0x000005C3: Tutorial read/unread status. Setting all to 0 marks all tutorials as unread

0x000005D3 - 0x000005DC: Heart-to-Heart discovery status. Setting to 0 will erase all Heart-to-Hearts from the menu list. setting everything to FF will show all Heart-to-Heart conversations in the game. Doesn't change whether you've watched the conversation or not.

0x000005EB: first two Binary entries are Shulks skill tree. Flags them as visible or invisible. Couldn't test if quests can reunlock them. learned and linked skills will stay active when trees are invisible / locked. Tree passive stays active as long as no other tree is chosen.

0x000005EC: Skilltrees for "Sharla | Dunban | Seven | Reyn" in this order. 2 Binary entries per character. same as above

0x000005ED: Skilltrees for "Melia | Riki" in this order. last 4 Binary entries are for them. no clue about the other half

0x00000599 onwards: Some Menu flags? altering Values here can lock you out from the menu or disable parts of it. Sidequest tracker will say that you need to progress the story further to unlock this feature. I was able to lock some menu elements like changing my group order, arts and equipment screen.

0x00000DF0 - 0x00000DF1: Active story mission. Stored as UInt16.
Examples:
00 00: No active story mission. you can fast travel to every location you've visited. Sword Valley spawns no enemies or collectibles. (guess cuz of prologue stuff).
02 00: Sword Valley Cutscene "Quest". Changes to 03 00 after cutscene finishes.
1A 00: Colony 9 under attack (objective: Get to the Monado).
60 00: Ether Mines: Beat Xord (Bosses will spawn)
4F 01: Gadolt beaten. Go to Meyneth Shrine
89 01: Point of no Return before last bosses.
8C 01: Cutscene "Quest". Changes to 8E 01 after the cutscene finishes and throws you into the very last Area if you are currently in Colony 9.

Cutscenes won't play twice. If you change to a cutscene quest which you already finished then either nothing will happen (wrong area for the cutscene), change of teammates, forced teleportation or some unique effects like getting Gadolt's Rifle if you currently are or going to visit the Ether Mines while Cutscene Quest 61 00 ist active (which will change to 62 00 after offering you the Item).

Enviroment is also based on main quest progress. Mechonis will miraculousy repair itself if your current quest is set before the events of Mechonis Core. This allows you to fast travel to areas which aren't accessible anymore.
