yeah whoever did localization had a major hard on for The British isles and Greek for some reason, bit disappointing that as usual these people just bastardise everything in the name of "localization"

Nia was alright

v0.0.25
*26.02.2025*
v0.0.25 Dialogue of the main plot revised up to the middle of the 5th chapter.

Important note:
When you start a new game, you will see a message in Japanese asking you to choose a language. Unfortunately, I have not found a way to translate this screen. You have to select the Japanese language (日本語) - that is, press “X” and then confirm with “A”.

v0.0.30
*28.02.2025*
v0.0.28
  • Revised dialogue of the main plot up to the end of the 5th chapter.
  • Merged BushidoJP's existing name delocalization patch for Iira DLC. Made numerous changes to ensure consistency in names and terminology throughout the game. Restored most honorifics in Iira DLC. The patch is fully compatible with the Iira DLC installed (the stand-alone version is not supported, at least for now). Dialogues in the Iira DLC will remain unchanged for now (note: the translation quality appears to be similar to the main game) until work on the main game reaches a satisfactory state. Significant work still remains to be done.
  • Updated "kizuna ring" hints (development trees that unlock Blade skills) to ensure attack names mentioned in these hints are consistent with the restored original attack names implemented in previous versions.

*01.03.2025*
v0.0.30
  • Fixed various typos and corrected several previously translated dialogue lines.
  • Added the [ML:undisp] tag in places where it appeared in the Japanese script. This effectively removes unnecessary vocal expressions like "Grrrr," "Ohhhhhh," "Ughyaaaa!" etc.
  • Revised and verified Chapter 6 dialogue up to its midpoint.

OP, you're based. While I played through the western XC2 version and had no problems with it, I'm all for keeping the OG names and etc. If only we had more people like you, who would save games like Valkyria Chronicles 4 and The Legend of Heroes: Trails Through Daybreak from their awful translations.

Are you planning to edit names in credits and cutscenes too?
This is already done from the first version I posted here. Now I'm focusing on translating the main plot (voiced lines) and Bonding Talks. And other things that I notice while going through the game from the start again. Expect the text and general characterization to be really different from what was in the official translation.
The main plot is currently checked/translated up to the end of chapter 6.
This patch doesn't just change names and terminology, there are actually quite a lot of things re-translated already at this point.

Does this mod require Japanese version of the game? Because I have USA version in nsp format and Yuzu. So I can do testing if necessary.

No, actually the opposite. You need a fully updated western version. Iira DLC also has corrected names already, but I haven't touched the dialogues for now (and it is not likely to happen for some time yet - until I am satisfied with the main game).

I've glad someone is finally doing this, Xenoblade 2 deserves to be played as close to its original form as possible.

I'm not sure if you've already changed this, but just going off your screenshot, "Praetorium" should be something like "Holy See" instead. The former is yet another example of the localization trying to replace religious naming with something that breaks the intended theming and also makes no sense in context.

v0.0.39 -v0.046
*10.03.25*
v0.0.39

- Dialogue of the main plot revised up to the end of the 9th chapter.
- Many fixed line breaks from previous chapters (mostly 5th because this is where I am currently in the game)

*12.03.25*
v0.0.40

- Dialogue of the main plot revised up to the end of the last chapter.
- Many corrected lines from previous chapters

This does not mean that the main plot is already set in stone. I'm sure I'll still find plenty of bugs (mainly badly divided lines and somehow strange-sounding tasks). “Dialogue of the main plot revised up to the end of the last chapter” should be understood more as “text has been revised up to the end of the main plot, but still waiting for potential improvements.”

*14.03.25*
v0.0.42

- Bonding Talk scenes 1-24 (out of 82) have been checked and re-translated.
- All errors related to line length (which previously resulted in truncated sentences) have been fixed (voiced lines from the main story and Bonding Talk scenes 1–24).

*16.03.25*
v0.0.44

- Bonding Talk scenes 1-45 (out of 82) have been checked and re-translated.
- A few typos in Chapter 6 have been corrected.

*18.03.25*
v0.0.46

- Bonding Talk scenes 1-61 (out of 82) have been checked and re-translated.
- A few typos in Chapter 6 and 7 have been corrected.

Thanks a lot for this. Didn't even have a clue how most of the game's story got changed when it was localized, thought it was only names that got affected. Still... not really a fan of honorifics this time around since the game setting isn't explicitly set in Japan (like Persona) but I guess I'll get used to it. Anyway, thanks again and good luck for what comes next.

This is some excellent work! I am a big fan of authenticity! THANK YOU for doing justice to this masterpiece.

Does this mod also include the changes from your Heart-to-Heart uncensored mod?

Yes, but I'm re-translating all these scenes from scratch anyway, as mentioned in the changelog

does xenoblade chronicles 3 suffer from the same fate 2 does?
Not exactly. No game in the Xenoblade series has a good translation. However, 3 and 1 were suffered from this problem much less than 2 and X.
So ranking how bad the translation is in all Xenoblade games from the most altered to least:
2 > X >>> 3 > 1.

  • 2 has rewritten the entire lore, most interactions between characters, all names, proper names, culture, symbolism. Most of the dialogues are forcefully punched up, or, on the contrary, quite simplified, often rewritten. This is basically a different game in the West.
  • X is similar except that most of the lore, name or world building are left as they are. Dialogues are often a complete rewrite. This can be seen even at the beginning of the game. Lin's lines are altered to the point of completely changing her character for example.
  • 3 has plenty of British inserts added. References to “the Queen,” British slang, etc. Many dialogues are unnecessarily punched up, but most rather more or less convey the meaning. It's not a faithful translation, but at least it doesn't change the dialogues so much in most cases that it changes the characters quite a bit (well, except maybe Eunie). Many character names are altered too (I think I'll be able to fix that when I'm done with Xenoblade 2, but don't count on X3 getting a re-translation like my X2 patch does, at least not from me). Oh and western version made a non-binary bullshit with Yuzuriha which clearly is not a thing in original text.
  • 1 is similar to 3.

Unfortunately, don't count on me when it comes to X. I decided to make a patch for Xenoblade 2 because I always wanted to do it - it's the best game I've ever played and it really hurt my heart that in the West, essentially no one would be ever able to experience this game as it was created. I'm not a big fan of Xenoblade X, so I won't touch it.

This is amazing, thank you!
I hope that in the future the same is possible for Xenoblade X, in a lot of ways the localization is even worse than XB2's.
(on top being my favorite Xeno entry, just below XS3 lol)
