Okay, here goes - my friends Wii had a dead dvd drive, I had him order a new one off of ebay (it is a D3-2). In the meantime, I softmodded so he could play via usb backup.
I replaced his dvd drive, went to install a game to the hdd with cfg usb loader. First time, it didnt work, gave a -2 error. Second time worked partly, then gave a ton of (2)-2 errors before stopping.
Playing through disk channel - Sometimes shows the disk info, but on loading the game the console gives a DRE. Other times, the disk channel just says the disk cant be recognized.
What would be the possible issues? Putting aside the fact that the drive could be DOA, as I *really* dont want to go through an RMA process, what would be the OTHER possible issues? Might be handy to mention that his old dvd drive did the SAME EXACT THING as this new one - shows disk info in disk channel (like where you would hit play), but hitting play loads to a DRE.
