so at what point did each part of KARL become open source.

From what I understand the timeline was like this:

Project start: Everything will be open
Moral/hypocritical Crisis: Everything will be closed
A few months in: ARM11 became open source

that's when I stopped following but when did you open source ARM9 access and what kind of work would it take to build a CFW off the open source part of KARL?

(I would use the code myself to build one but I'm only just starting to delve into the quagmire that is system hacking and the 3DS isn't open enough yet for me to experiment without using a hardmod)

ARM11 was always open, ARM9 was only opened after another party managed an open-source firmlaunch hax. No more will be opened.

Let me summarize this for you:

- Brock starts a dev team to create an open source cfw, he names it Kernel Access Rom Loader 3DS.
- Some devs join him and when they find out that he doesn't even have a lvl99 pokemon Brock gets kicked out.
- The project is no longer open source because Misty finds the secret to become the best pokemon trainer inside the 3DS firmware, a release would be tres dangereux.
- A wild japanese numbers guy appears. It uses basic coding skills, it has no effect.
- Misty uses a master ball on the wild japanese numbers guy, but it flees.
- Ash, being the nice guy that he is, decides to open-source bootstrap's arm9 branch.
- James of team rocket notices the arm9 source and uses it to build his own custom firmware, he then removes that one line of code, that patches the sig checks and open sources everything else. Surely people will figure this out on their own.
- Two weeks pass but nothing happens.
- The inner circle of 3DS devs is very amused by the fact that everyone cries about not having a 9.2 cfw when there is literally a complete cfw open-sourced where just one line of code is missing.
- A third week passes but again nothing happens.
- The whole situation becomes a running gag with the inner circle of 3DS devs.
- A fourth week passes but still noone seems to take notice.
- The inner circle of 3DS devs gives up all hope, one dev says "maybe if we write them a pastebin containing that missing one line of code they will get it", everyone laughs and they decide to do it for the lulz.
- Serina notices the pastebin and posts it on pokemontemp.
- May spends all her copy&paste skill points and well ... copy and pastes that one line from the pastebin into James of team rocket's cfw.
- All the pokemons on pokemontemp are super happy because finally thanks to May and Serina they have their own public open source pirate cfw.
- The inner circle of 3DS devs is still laughing to this day and debate what pastebin they should write next.

true story bro.

Perhaps, we don't really have anything concrete to report on since what we're working on is kinda up in the air at the moment. We don't want to make a big deal out of something which might not actually happen (it only led to nonsense-spreading last time), and we'd rather not say what it is for now either because we're trying to avoid random speculation and misinformation.

Wii U games for old 3DS confirmed.

Coincidentally I like Serina the most out if the games. :P

It still is. People were complaining that they kept teasing us but not releasing anything, so I bet they are just keeping quite like those people wanted instead of giving really cool info. They could just be inactive for an entirely different reason, but I guess the people complained, and the devs listened and now we wait. :P
