I'm sorry, but composite out and horrible audio is no excuse in this day and age. We need a real mini console, with HDMI out and the such.

Why not just buy a converter?

How in the hell can any form of converter help with blurred 480p and shitty audio?

Um, emulation? Hook up a raspberry pi? Or get a modern retro console.

I am talking about the "modern retro console," which came out in 2007.

The closest thing we have to a Sega version of the NES Mini is the AtGames' SEGA Mega Drive, which has the problems I referred to in the original post. Hooking up a raspberry Pi is a consideration, but a much more clunky solution compared to the simplicity of the NES Mini.

There's always the Cyber Gadget Retro Freak, it's pricey but has very high compatibility, HDMI out, SD ROM dumping and loading, supports real carts as well, and the emulation quality is superb for all supported consoles. Like, the sound emulation is highly accurate, unlike most all other retro console clones.

    Supports:

    1. Nintendo Entertainment System (NTSC/PAL)
    2. Famicom (Japanese version NES)
    3. Super Famicom (Japanese version SNES)
    4. Super Nintendo Entertainment System (NTSC/PAL)
    5. Game Boy
    6. Game Boy Color
    7. Game Boy Advance
    8. Mega Drive (NTSC/PAL) *
    9. Genesis (US version Mega Drive) *
    10. PC Engine (Japanese version TurboGrafx-16)
    11. TurboGrafx-16
    12. PC Engine SuperGrafix

No, i'm talking about something like the Retron 5. It can play Genesis and Mega Drive. and tons of other retro game consoles

Have you ever heard of upscaling? You can buy a decent composite to HDMI converter with good HDMI scaling.

If your expecting FFXV visuals and 7.1 surround sound audio then you got the wrong console.

That is funniest thing i heard all day. :P

But seriously, Sega tec toy brazil is making a new megadrive genesis or whatever. If that what you looking for, should have HDMI, and cartridge support and even roms. But still, get a emulation system, don't need to be the PC PI retro pi stufff, could be a PSP or some gp32x or whatever is called, a android with controllers attached like invidia shield or xperia play. I mean if you really need something simple and worthy. I know sound emulations is never near perfect but most emulators now and days are enough. Even better than some ported games like the ones on sega ultimate genesis collection done by BACKBONE ENTERTAINMENT O_O

Most of those backbone ports are terrible sounds off in some games sure it's not laggy but it's not perfect far from it M2 the people did the 3D Sonic and Streets Of Rage games those are good ports with little issues with them

If there was a SEGA Megadrive Mini or whatever the problem would be it like this having all the sonic games of course but the Megadrive is filled with such great non first party games for example gunstar heroes and Battle Mania Daiginjō and plenty others but if there is going to be Sega Megadrive mini it will most likely be filled with first party games and some third party like Gunstar Heroes for example.

Yes i know m2 ports are better than backbone ports, i own a variety of them both on my ps3, and i can tell the difference. Even the sonic mega collection and gems collection had better sound emulation than the ps2/psp sega classics collection and ps3/X360 Sonic ultimate genesis collection. :creep:

So umm has anyone bought any genesis games on steam? How are they by the way?

Besides that, it seem like sound emulation has never been near perfect on most emulators for many retro consoles, but then what you expect from DAT SEGA SOUND CHIP. Yamaha YM2612 PSG1 at 44.100MHZ :teach:

Upscaling an image in a poor quality format will still give you low quality results and RCA is down there. The genesis had native RGB support and I'd expect at least component from Tectoy.

I mean come on guys it can't even do 480p in this state it'll be locked 480i. I'm hoping the emulation will at least be good.

They are just roms being played in a emulator sure the launch menu is neat and all but it's just a waste of money and not to mention the sound emulation is off

My 50'' Panasonic HDTV has 240p support oddly enough. Maybe that's why my older consoles don't look so blurry. It's also really good at upscaling so maybe that's why I don't have a problem.

My 42" Samsung does as well but in my opinion if they had any intention of doing it some justice they'd at least leave us with component support. I understand that it's a product designed for the Brazilian market which has a large amount of consumers still using CRTs(I have a few around as well) but leaving it with just RCA just doesn't seem right for a machine anywhere near it's price range. In fact for the 120ish USD they want for it that's highway robbery and I'm sure it'd even be high if we took the time to remove the "Brazil tax" from the equation.

My point is that I want a proper Genesis Mini, SMS Mini, etc. With pixel perfect 1080p upscaling, games preloaded, and high quality audio. That's a little bit hard to find.

You do realize that the NES Mini is playing NES roms right? Something like a Raspberry Pi or the Retron5 which have HDMI out are going to accomplish exactly what the NES mini does but for other oldschool consoles including the Genesis.
