I feel kind of unique, everyone seems to use softmod these days.. Im still rocking with my wiikey1 1.9s

anywho.. the dumbass that I am I installed the 4.2 update and the chip works great.. EXCEPT for "Region override" thing!

I have a PAL wii, and now all of my NTSC games stoped working :/

of course I tryed with the config disc to shut it on/off and such, but no luck

is there any other with the same problem?
is there a forum or irc channel where the wiikey guys hang out?
or is the old wiikey1 doomed maybe?

thanks for any answers

Seems like you're not alone.
All over the internet we can find foruns where people relate the same thing...about 4.2/wiikey problems on booting different regions ISO.

I've sent a mail to the wiikey support and im waiting their reply...in the meanwhile...my wiikey 2 rules over all ....in 4.1

As a workarround, you can try to use GeckoOS to try to boot NTSC Backups. People have been doing this with success.

Google-it.

from what ive read, its to do with its stealth mode. when you are playing same region backups, its completely stealthed. ie, the system menu/ios cant tell its there. however, when you have the region override setting enabled, its only in semi stealth mode, meaning that it can (and has been) detected.

simple fix is leave it in normal mode, and when you play an out of region backup, use gecko os.

[edit]

also a wiikey v1 user, not that i use the wii's dvd drive for anything except gamecube games these days.

Dude, I completely agree with the fact that you're having fun with your Wiikey1, etc. Even I have a Wiikey1 in an NTSC US Wii
smile.gif
but the softmods are great
biggrin.gif
I haven't used those gamma, etc., ones, but what I am currently using is USB Loader GX. I picked up a 320 GB Seagate FreeAgent Go, and I don't have to burn games to DVDs anymore
biggrin.gif
Hell, you know, I would even recommend you to get a 80 gb or 160 gb one, coz I've hardly even used up 100 gb of mine

Another best thing is, when you install games to your HDD via WBFS Manager, it scrubs the game and then installs it to your HDD

thereby saving a whole lotta space

Same here, after updating to 4.2 (the homebrew way: new hackmii installer+waninkoko 4.2
updater), the Wasabi Zero modchip is unable to launch Wii import backups
anymore.

Wii backups: OK
Wii import backups: Not recognized as valid disc in Disc Channel
GC backups: OK
GC import backups: OK.

Actually - don't bother. I'm on a wiikey 1.9s and recently got into these new fangled USB loaders - they are the dogs!
So don't worry - go USB loader and then NEW games can be loaded directly onto the USB drive.
I haven't tried but I suspect you will also be able to load your non functioning NTSC games onto USB loader as it dosn't use the disc channel to read them.

What Nintendo have done, in the midst of all this software blocking,

I wrote to Wasabi support about the issue but i've yet to hear from them.
Did anyone hear from the other chip makers, Wiikey, etc.. any official statement from them?

I hope they can fix it via modchip firmware update.
What's strange is GC import backup DVDs still work fine for me, only Wii imports DVDs have the issue.

Just got a reply from team Wasabi:

QUOTE said:
"After several tests we can confirm the rumor about the new firmware 4.2 from NINTENDO breaking imports it removes the ability to play any import at all due to a new check. This is the same for every other mod chip on the market. The R&D team are working on it and soon as more news coming out, the web site will be updated with all needed informations.

Please frequently visit our web site for more information.

Nothing new on their site yet, i hope to see some good news soon!

If your internet speeds are fast enough. Streaming 4k takes alot. I used to only have 20mb sec, and 4k struggled. Now I have 300mb sec and 4k plays fine.

I think Game streaming should work like this.... Local Hardware able the run the game fine, game engine and common assets stored locally, all FMV and music and textures could be streaming

Or free government supplied high speed internet be nice also. Like Obama care. Xdqwerty that's cool, its time consuming but rewarding once done or playable, to see what you've made from scratch. Animations take forever, but worth it.

    @BigOnYa,
and the visual aspect of the game is quite crude (the sprite that looks best is that of the protagonist just because he is a stickman with sunglasses)

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
There is a bullets behaviour you assign to your character, that makes the code easier, under "behaviours"
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
i meant that when the character is pointing to the right, the bullets spawn where they should, but when he is on the right, they move to the right but the spawn point is incorrect
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Itch.io has lots of free assets also. Under the bullets behavior tab, there is a "rotate bullets" option, can try that. Or in the code can try
    - fire bullet Player.X(PlayerDirection)

That's cool tho, I'm proud of you going back to it, not giving up. It is difficult at first to learn, but fun once you get the hang of it. I think I've watched every tutorial video there is, but I still struggle sometimes to get stuff to work right. But gotta keep trying dif things, and eventually you will get it right.
