"Anyhoo, i'm off to hang with some physical human beings and actual beer and actual music. Except it's just me in a room with a computer. I've just necked a bottle of scotch. Except I haven't because it's not real."

aww you dont have any friends or scotch? thats really sad... maybe you can add that to your "wiiflow fantasy request" thread :)
You really do struggle with the whole 'irony' thing, don't you?
Bless.

You sure do struggle at being likable, don't you?

Yes, I see... I have to clean out the emulator games from the list. Ugh... I have to fire up the app I wrote a while back to extract just the Wii games again. May take a little while.
I'm sure this isn't as much of a problem for your specific app since homebrew isn't on GameTDB but given that for my converting app I also have to see how I sort out the different entries, I had thought of three options for this.

1. (The most convenient) I would just assume that
  • anything with a / in it goes under [EMULATOR]
  • 4-digit items belong under [NAND]
  • 6-digit items starting with G go under [DML]
  • other 6-digit things go under [GAMES]
  • and everything else goes under [HOMEBREW]
but any 6-digit or 4-digit homebrew would end up being misplaced. (Actually, under the previous method, a poorly named homebrew app could cause confusion anyhow.) I'm also not ENTIRELY sure that all GameCube games' GameID's start with a G.

2. (Middle ground) Just base where each entry goes off of where the entry already is in the existing categories_v4.ini.
The problem with this is that you would have to run WiiFlow and go through all your coverflows an plugins to make sure all the entries are created first. I also have some games that are included in my categories.ini file backed up on other smaller hard drives so for me that would include connecting and running WiiFlow for all of them to not loose my existing entries for them.

3. (Last resort) I could copy ALL the entries under [CATEGORIES] in categories.ini into [GAMES], [DML], [NAND], [HOMEBREW], and [EMULATOR].

I also have some rather wierd entries in mine like
ate struggle [ruye41]/ruye41.wbfs=
and
b2:/wbfs/the legend of zelda skyward sword [soue01]/soue01.wbfs=
It's obvious that they're pointing to those games but they're all unused with no 1's or 0's after the = so I'll probably just leave them out like any other unused options but I just thought it was interesting.

I think I'm gonna have to use #2 with #1 as a backup for any that aren't found but I'd rather be able to sort them out without having to go through the work of creating the categores_v4.ini file beforehand.

Any ideas or feedback on this?

Hello everyone, I am currently using the latest release 4.0.1 and everything seems to be working great except my covers for my emulators. I will use NES as an example. I have a set of roms and a set of covers that matched up, but when I load of the coverflow in Wiiflow only some show up an others with questions marks. If I open the game and then return to Wiiflow, the missing cover may or may not show up. I have tried reloading the cache, deleting the cache and all settings, but I still have the same issue. Is anyone having this same issue? For me it is happening for all my emulators (GBA, GEN, SMS, SNES, N64, and NES). Thanks in advance for any help!
How did you name the covers? They have a peculiar format.

If the name of the game is:

007 - GoldenEye (USA).z64

The cover needs to be named:

007 - GoldenEye (USA).z64.png

Yes, I have all the names correct matching the extention. The problem is some covers show up and some do not. For example, I added a handful of new nes covers, but when I loaded up the coverflow, the new ones did not show. Only when I opened the game and exited back to wiiflow did some not all actually load. It seems like it stops loading covers after about 10 until I exit and retry again. Then it will load a few more. My TG16 Roms and covers show up fine, but I only have about 36 games there. I have about 850 Nes titles loading up (same for GEN, SNES, N64, etc) Do you think it is an issue because there are so many files trying to load?

Ok, I have done what Mastershoes had recommended and removed all my emulator plugins from the plugins folder. I then copied only the Nes plugin into the plugin folder and booted up wiiflow. It worked like a charm and all the covers are now caching and showing up properly. I will then just keep adding plugins and letting them cache separetely. It was a little more work, but in all reality no big deal. Thank you boston, mastershoes, and massive for your help!

why cant we detect which game it is by reading header from the roms, and then download the right cover?
That system is there and its in wiiflow, but lustar still havent updated gametdb for it...
So, could a user run wiiflow to associate png's from a given folder on a network or local hard drive, rather than having GameTDB do it?

All I see is some sad soul making an ass out of himself for other peoples enjoyment. I commend you fine sir!

Edit: yes, lets get back to wiiflow related discussion.

For problems with cover cacheing... i would suggest temporarily removing all the plugins (i put them in a folder called "plugins unused"). Then cacheing your emu covers one system at a time, with one plugin at a time. Can be a pain, but should get you all your covers to show. Then, when all the cache's are built, you can put them all back in one folder.
Thanks for the tip. By the way I finally got my scummvm plugins to work thanks to your tips and thevoiceover's tips as well.

Now I'm having a problem with the scummvm covers showing. I can't for the life of me figure it out.

For example I have a folder /scummVMroms/Codename - Iceman/ which has all the files scummvm needs to play the game. Therefore I setup /wiiflow/boxcovers/scummvm/Codename - Iceman.png

Is my naming convention incorrect for scummvm? I have coverfolder=scummvm in scummvm_plugin.ini but it still doesn't show. Do I have to change something in the scummvm.ini as well to get covers to work?

If I remember correctly you actually base it off of something in the scummvm.ini file, not the folder name. Can't remember what, though.

EDIT : Okay, found it. courtesy of [member='mastershoes']
Ok, I need help to setup the covers for scummvm. I put the name the covers the same name that has in the scummvm.ini (description and roms): Codename Iceman (Rom) and Codename Iceman.png but the cover dont show to me. What i do to make it work?
you need to use the id in the ini that looks like this

ex - [sq5]

no brackets, no extension. in this case the file would just be sq5.png

Spacepimp and seam come on now fellas, chill... and party. We all love Wiiflow and it's freaking awesome. No need for bashing just love and understanding, wow that rhymed in a terribly corny fashion.

See how I just made an ass out of myself for u guys ;)

On a sour note @fledge68 and everyone, I have to apologize big time. I just realized all the channels i created are not patching out Ahbprot therefore Wiiflow runs under cIOS249 rather than IOS58. Not sure why since I replaced the .dol with v14b forwarder with customizemii for all those channels.

I'll re-do the channels and post them once again this weekend. @[member='fledge68'] please re-up to the wiiflow site when I'm done and my bad once again.

If you have all your covers named the right way ie. gamename.nes.png to gamename.nes as rom name, I usually just go to the gears icon and click download cover and the cancel. For some reason it's been working for me for some time now and it seems to be the faster way to get your covers to show.

thats great, hope he does soon then :)

i thought that some rom covers had already been uploaded to wiitdb and were working as far as downloading is concerned.. but theyre using the "goodrom" file names... i just setup my rom covers manually so i havent ever tried it.
