that's exactly why I think i'm going to wait to play this game, I almost put it in my wii, then thought again. If your wii is up to date and yo have wiiconnect24 on theres nothing to worry about
until a new euro update is required on the pal system.....hoping this isnt going to cause an issue.
wonder if trying to update you pal wii after updating from spm will cause any problems...you know the update option in config?

When the next PAL update comes, it could have similar problems writing the PAL one over the US one and end up bricking your wii too
People might think that they have survived the update now and be happy that they are playing Super Paper Mario, but they might not be so happy by the next update when they could end up with a brick that won't play anything at all.
I really want to play this game, but I'm not that desperate.
edit - on second thoughts, the firmware stays as 2.1E doesn't it, it doesn't become 2.0U so I'm going to go ahead and play it
Bricked Wii: NO

I played the game now, the update went fine. The actual update process was really quick, just a few seconds. The other updates I have done have taken much longer than this one so I think it just checks to see what firmware you have and if it is the same or higher it just carries on to the game without writing anything to the wii firmware.Â
I think if you have a pal firmware lower than 2.0 which is the number for the US update this wants to install you will get the ntsc firmware update and a bricked wii.
hey guys, just an update, had pal wii (UK) not updated via internet etc so got the screen of death.. took the chip out, took the wii back to the shop i bought it from and they checked it out, they phoned nintendo who didnt know what the prob was or how to fix so just told the shop to give me another, which they did!
Got it home put chip back in (wiikey) noticed that it was a d2b chipset and my backups dont work anymore.. checked the install and looks ok.. maybe an early wiikey? or maybe this 'update' broke the wiikey too? gonna have to get a new one to test though, so good luck to everyone else who bricked theirs!
