wii u needs gamepad paired, but stuck on no wifi

hey all,

i have a console that lost it's gamepad, along with a gamepad acquired separately. the wii u console starts up but then says it can't find wifi (presumably trying to connect to wifi automatically on the user profile). how can i bypass that error and pair the gamepad? can it only be done with UDPIH, where i would pair the console to the new pad, then bypass the wifi error once it starts up? Thanks.

Press the sync button (red button) on the gamepad and the wii u to pair it.

thanks for the reply - i had to press the sync button a few times right as the console powered on, then once more as prompted by the system to pair the gamepad
