@puss2puss there's already a way to sucessfully back up nand with rednand or hardmod and restore it with hardmod
Yes but as i said, a ''proper'' way, like in the old wii. You know, to make sure its noob compatible so that we dont see a wave of bricks, blaming my menu
Yes there is a nand dumper that was realeased not too long ago, it has been proven to work and get restored from it. If that's what you are looking for I am excited to see what you have!
^ what i said..
I believe that
@puss2puss is waiting for a boot1 exploit. This would allow for people to back up and restore their NANDs before the system menu is even loaded, and completely via software, rather than purchasing special hardware and soldering to the console's motherboard. Remember how BootMii worked.
Exactly! I might have found a way to make the coldboot look for 2 element at boot and that if it doesnt find the first one, it goes directly for the second one, wich is the vc ds game.. but anyway, i still need to figure out if its possible to replace nand files through ftp, when the sysmenu isnt loaded yet..(when i say i found a way, it doesnt mean i made it!..i didnt.)
Can we get some specifics in here? I'm curious as to how this works on the backend; stuff that needs to be out there if integration into other brew is a thing.
When we say JGecko U, does this mean pyGecko codes are the name of the game? Or is Caffiine-esque file swapping what's at work? Paging
@BullyWiiPlaza.
@puss2puss I'm guessing you've repackaged the menu as a non-system title, SCT-style? If not, that's def. what you'd want to do if you go the installable route. To be honest though, I'd rather coldboot a framework or backend than install a new menu for every theme, much more flexible that way.
Well as of now i am testing stuff so i see every routes possible.. swapping, installing, coldbooting, .. but in the end, the result will be the same and you will be able to change themes as you like. Honestly there wint be anything different to do about homebrews etc.. all the basics from the normal menu is there so everything you can do now, is still possible, but some icons are now changed to have new features (until one day i learn how to add new features without replacing them..) like a wifi on-off switch instead of the 'miiverse' shortcut, homemade media center instead of the eshop (unless i find someone who can properly code a gui, it will just be a black screen with text, able to launch movies and music in wav and mp4..), a different second screen instead of the ''mii plaza'' and other stuff that i dont know if i will be able to do alone, but when i will feel satisfy of my progress, i will find some people here to be part of it so that it can be 'done' .
I dont want to make it 'only as a theme' , i want it to be an alternative menu that will replace it completly. Couple of years ago i made something with the old sdk but i wasnt able to test anything myself and it was praticly a black menu with options, but i threw it all away when i realized it will never work and if it does, it will only work for people with devkit lol..so..
..But now, with the wiiU's current modding state, i decided to remake something but not from scratch, this time i base it from the actual menu, gonna be easyer and a more realistic objective

puss2puss: Do you have a screenshot or something? Can't wait to see a dark theme for Wii U.
Yesterday i did my first visual testing and i really liked it! I'm not really a showoff since 'showing off' usually puts the expectations higher, but i think i will actually take a small video, and drop it on youtube with a different name, but until i get near releasing it, i will not open a thread about it or whatever, to avoid bringing attention to it yet.. some poeple are just babies who slow down progress with their whining and demotivation when they dont get what they want.. wich wasnt the case with the old xbox's modding scene..
Will your custom menu remove the 300 game limit because that would be useful to some people.
No, i wouldnt know how.. but i guess its the kind of things that someone will make when i am ready to add new features..
Don't forget to create a "Theme changer" app so we don't have to install modified Wii U menu everytime [Which imo is risky]
This is realllly not my concern right now! And i will have someone else to do it for me since i wouldnt know how, but the way it is right now, i can change themes by turning a theme into an 'update' for my menu, and install the update with wupinstaller. But i will want someone to make me an app to actually make themes and move modules around and switch the secondary screen (instead of the mii plaza, you can have a screensaver or mp4..)
