I copied over about 10 VC games and WiiWare files using Wad Manager. It just let me copy and never told me how much space was left or that I was out of space.

I rebooted my Wii and was told I was out of memory and to delete things. I rebooted back into Wad Manager and deleted a few of the games and then rebooted back into the system menu. I now have free space and played a few of the games for an hour and was fine.

Did I miss something in Wad Manager that tells you how much memory you have left? It took me deleting 3 games, one at a time and rebooting after each delete to finally get some free memory. Is there some sort of backup 'reserve' memory they went into?

Am I lucky I didn't brick, or do I not have to worry about that? They sure don't give you much space to work with...

Just the way it is. There is like 512mb of user space available (I think). If you over install You have to delete until you are back in that space. No brick threat.
