Updating is pointless, as 4.2 was made just for getting rid of Homebrew (which failed. XD). The only thing you may need to update for is the Wii Shop Channel, which can be done without updating to 4.2 by using either IOS61 Installer or WiiSCU. If you DO update, then it is still possible to use Homebrew. You just need to get the latest versions of the Homebrew Channel, DVDX, and BootMii.

Why dont you run cios38rev14 installer to overwrite the stubbed ios249 and your launcher will work...

So regarding the update should i wait about a week or 2 before updating? i want to update even if it doesnt add any new features. Its sad to hear Waninkoko wont be heard from as often. thx

There's really no reason to update, all 4.2 does is try to fight the hackers. But if you have the compulsive need to have the latest version (like me

) there's no need to wait, the hackers have already pwned it.

Just:[*]Go to the current Homebrew channel, click the update, and use the new Hackmii installer to install new versions of HBC, DVDX and Bootmii[*]Use Waninkoko's firmware updater to update the Wii to 4.2 (don't use the official Nintendo updater, it will overwrite your pirate cIOS)[*]Use DopIOS-Mod to fix the issue of the upside down HBC if you have it.Simples. Took all of about 20 minutes in total. Got homebrew and backups working fine in 4.2E:

wiabs1, what firmware are you on? 4.2 or earlier?

install cios.

get waninkoko's cios38rev14 (will install as ios249 and ios250 with version maxed out)
get hermes v4. up to you how to install, but a lot of people do 38+37 as 222 and 38+60 as 223

get usb loader gx, and the loader channel. update it from the program to get up to the latest version.

it takes some playing around to find what settings work for what game. there are lists compiled here and there.

for guitar heros, you'd want to use hermes 38+37, whatever you installed that as. may need to toggle anti002, but not sure if it's required.

So in other word's it's not against the forum rules at all because it's not copyrighted and is not illegal. Wankos, gator software is not illegal. it's just apps made to manipulate the wii's firmware, NAND ect... It is NOT illegal to "hack" the wii in any form. It's your wii and you can do whatever you want with it. Look it up. What IS illegal is using the software to play backup games you didn't buy in the first place. If you bought the game and copied the game to a DVD then its legal. Thats why you see all these "Backup Launchers" out there.

wiikey still works except when you try to play a backup that's a different region to your console. IMO i wouldn't even bother with 4.2 right now it offers NO real good reason to update.

I think TT should have left the ID of HBC as HAXX because changing it to JODI is causing other issues that people have to fix with more programs. Same goes for DVDX.

A few smart member on this forum figured out the hex editing for the new SM 4.2 to cause it to not delete HBC and DVDX. TT Should have just waiting for Wanin to make the firmware updater, and wanin should have made it so it patches the new SM on the fly just like other have pointed out.

It seems that TT is making a lot more people put in a lot more work than needed by playing this ID changing game when there was a simple fix. Just my honest opinion.

I've actually created a UPS (kinda like IPS) patch for US SM 4.2 Hex hack. So now there is only a single button press, well maybe two, involved and no hex editor. If anyone is interested in testing it pm me. Oh and remember it could brick your Wii and this hack is not "officially" sanctioned by the Wii Hacker Consortium, in case you were wondering.

My fix is a temporary patch for those who are having issues with certain tools they would like to use now and not wait for someone else to catch up. Also you probably already realized that this fix is exactly what Preloader (hack.ini wise, that is) does, and at any point time can be rolled back by restoring the original 4.2 System Menu, much like you would do with a SM theme.
Amazingly enough I have read this entire thread, quite an accomplishment. lol
