I said it's gone for good because wiibrew.org states that "BootMii will cease to exist" due to System 4.2
Not sure about the technical implications of that, but since LU64+ were always a pain in the ass with their boot2v4 I think it would take an extra mile to bring BootMii back (if at all possible)
Well...where does it say that? I'm looking at the 4.2 page right now and don't see anything like that. It will remove any prexisting installation, it says that, but not that it can never be installed again.

Dude... It's right there in the table of Affected Homebrew.

Anybody else notice the 2-3 spelling/grammatical errors on the Australian message? I would like to know did anyone redeive this message and what is a monification?

There seems to be a lack of confidence in terms of a work-around for this. We had this panic with 3.4, 4.0/4.1, TP Hack being wiped out and the arrival of LU64+ Wiis. Lets just sit back, wait for the flood of 'OMFG I've bricked my Wii updating to 4.2!!' posts and wait for a solution. Unless you REALLY want/need to update then don't panic.

All will come good in the end, and you can all change your sigs to 'Follow this guide to update to 4.2 safely with Bootmii, HBC and ISO Loader'

Can't believe this update kills BootMii. Now there's gonna be enough bricked Wiis to build another Great Wall.

Although it is a brilliant move on Ninty's part. Now when idiots fxck up their Wiis they are forced to buy a new one. At least Wii is $199 now... Seems convenient that the homebrew and piracy killing update comes out just after the price cut.

Looks like system menu 4.0 is the new 3.2.

btw... Anybody out there still use 3.2?

Oh, you mean that. I'm pretty sure what it means is that when you install this update from Nintendo your BootMii installation will cease to exist. If it could never be installed again, why would they say that you should wait for a new Hackmii installer?

I think what we need is either a new HackMii Installer or Trucha Bug Restorer that will crack the newer IOS' and once you get 1, only 1 Bugged IOS, the rest is cake, and we can dongrade (I call it DOWNDATE) to 4.1 and corresponding IOS'.

ummm we don't need anything new for the new IOS. grab it with NUS, run freethebug on it and install it. I already did. I bet any game that comes requiring IOS70 (which would be strange because I don't know of a game that actually uses the same IOS as a system menu) I bet it'll run just fine on my Wii.

So can we just Trucha patch the new IOSes and install them for now (the useful ones)?

Or do they have checks and patches like IOS37 did?

EDIT:

I sent my Wii to Nintendo right after 4.1 came out, and they updated my boot2 to boot2v4.... If I install the 4.2 update, is it possible that I'll keep Bootmii?

Wow more than 300 people are reading this; I seriously blame it on 'Attack of the Show' if they didn't make it so public then Nintendo's update would of just been features and not preventing piracy. Although I'm curious, Nintendo didn't sue or did anything when 'Attack of the Show' exposed the homebrew channel. To me Nintendo seeing that happened would of cause a lot ppl who watch that show to pirate their Wii's and since the media is very widespread, the pirating will increase within a few months which can slightly...barely decrease the sells from Nintendo's profit!

Plus Nintendo lowering their Wii price to 200 bucks, its something they decided to do from their minds. Just giving the people a free example to pirate is something that they can't risk.
+1

that stupid show was so lame and did probably partake in this new wonderful homebrewless firmware.

I´m pretty sure that Nintendo knows since day 1 of the existence of HBC and homebrew apps... but hey lots off ppl were buying their Wii to hack it so Nintendo didnt do anything against it ´till now... dunno why.

ok just got home and read all 21 pages

first thing is first
Waninkoko is a great guy and has made some great things. but he is also the perfect guy to make a patch like this for the big N...... anyone else wonder if he has went over to the dark side? haha oh well lets hope not but as said before there are still some great coders/hackers/powerusers in the scene TT being one

second
for the 1 or 2 big N guys reading this forum nintendo needs to stop fighting us homebrew users and start fighting other problems
if it wasnt for homebrew nintendo would owe me a new wii
i got a corrupt game save from a game i bought and because of that corrupt game save i got the following: error 101246, an overheated wii, slow load times (2min +), and no internet what so ever ...... i am in the middle of writing a guide about that error and the fixes. from what i can tell im the first to have fixed it and fig out what error 101246 is(error 101246 comes from when you try to do a connection test , when that happens nintendo(im guessing) checks ur wii system ect. to see if u need to update. well while checking ur system it hits that save data that is corrupt and because it is corrupt it hangs there trying to read it till it times out. giving you error 101246)hay nintendo guys write that down because eveyone who calls you to find out what that is, your service people on the phone have no clue what so ever

see nintendo we can help

there are far more coders in our scene then you have working for you! we will always win and be ahead of you. there will always be hole/bugs in your code. there is no way for there not to be! and we will always find them! so why not work with us and not against us, to improve code, add new feature, look at wiiflow if you did that with your games and made your games downloadable. added hdd support like the scene did look what you would have. dont forget the media center app ect. we (the scene) help make the wii better, much better and you spend all your time trying to kill our improvements, instead of making your own much needed improvements and watching g4tv

...fail

Oh well - the Indiania Pwns still works, though. If you ask me, Nintendo is going to release a update in the future that's going to be 250mb and what it will do is fully fill our harddrives up. Kinda weird that Nintendo is focusing on homebrew instead of piracy.
