That was 4/5 days ago and am now kinda stuck , Whats the best step forward from here differences of online and offline install ?
Id love some qaulity guidence on the best way to move forward keeping the wii as flexible as it can be for the system that ive got and version we are at ,
and get all the benefits of the usb sdhc etc...
Being able to get wii online for kids to do mii contests and stuff if possible , cause they like all that .
Any things to be aware of that may not be so obviouse to a noob stepping into the wii scene at 1st glance .

so the kids wanna get online now and then to do mii's
we wanna play games off usb hdd and sdhc if possible , probably wont be burning disks to play .
and id like the wii to be as flexible as can be for the system that ive got and version we are at .

The second guide, the ultimate one by assassda, is the best, most comprehensive and up to date one there. WiiPowers one basically just is a guide to do the stuff you seem to already have done on your Wii. And the others are somewhat dated.

You might not be able to follow the online guide from assassda's right off the bat though.

You could either follow the offline guide up to step 10 (steps 1-3, A-B, and 9-10) and then do the online guide, or if you find it any easier, you can google "IOS16-64-v257-prod.wad" and "cios_fix.wad", download those and put them in your "WAD" folder on your sd card and get wad manager 1.4, rename the .dol to boot.dol and put it in a wad manager folder in your "apps" folder and run that through HBC and have it install the IOS16 wad using the default IOS, then reboot it and run it again this time selecting IOS16 to use in wad manager instead of the default one and install the cios_fix.wad.

Then you could run the online guide from there and select IOS249 in the cIOS rev13 installer and so on.

Once you finish that guide you should be fully up to date with the IOS's you should need and the latest cIOS installed on 4.0 firmware. And if stuff still works as they should at that point you should make another nand backup of that state (after backing up your old one to your pc if you haven't) Also be sure not to skip the verification process when its backing up.

Once that's done with you can put whatever else you want on it. Any apps just need to have the .dol of it renamed to boot.dol, put in their own folder within the apps folder on your sd card and then just run them through the HBC. If you want to install anything as a channel you need either a wad of the app you want as a channel or a .dol forwarder (generally used for usb loaders so you don't have to install new channels every time they're updated.)

I also suggest getting the homebrew browser app, which will let you browse through any other apps you may want through your Wii and download them straight to your sd card from the wii itself. So you can get whatever emulators and whatever else you want through that.

Edit: Also make sure your Wii is not an LU64+ type of Wii before doing any of this. Although I'm pretty sure yours isn't as you seem to have been able to install bootmii to boot2 since you have boot2v3. If you bought your Wii before 2009 or so you shouldn't have to worry about this at all. And since boot2 installs don't usually work on any Wii's post mid-2008 I'm assuming you did so this most likely won't be an issue, but it never hurts to be sure.

dude nice write up many thanks indeed for ur superlative input
i was even thinking of asking if i could do a combo of online/offline install for a better wii set up but thought id be asking a bit much.
if i can do online off the bat would u rekomend

or

if u was doing this on a 2/3 year old wii updated 2/3 times since being bought and now @ 3.4E

which would be ur prefered install option

if i can do number 3) EDIT* oops i put number 1 but meant number 3 sorry )*

1_ follow the offline guide up to step 10 (steps 1-3, A-B, and 9-10) and then do the online guide .

2 _ or if you find it any easier, you can google "IOS16-64-v257-prod.wad" and "cios_fix.wad", download those and put them in your "WAD" folder on your sd card and get wad manager 1.4, rename the .dol to boot.dol and put it in a wad manager folder in your "apps" folder and run that through HBC and have it install the IOS16 wad using the default IOS, then reboot it and run it again this time selecting IOS16 to use in wad manager instead of the default one and install the cios_fix.wad.
Then you could run the online guide from there and select IOS249 in the cIOS rev13 installer and so on.

3_ Install cIOS36 rev13 to IOS249 using Network install mode (how to start step 1 ? do i run a .bat file or something that comes in the download ?)

You could try starting with method 3, but I'm pretty sure that there won't be a vulnerable IOS for it to use to install it, and it will just return some error. Everything in the online download pack should pretty much all be set to just put in your apps folder on your sd card and run everything through the HBC (though I think you may still need to rename all the .dol's in each folder to boot.dol.) Ex: Every application should be on your sd card like E:\apps\nameofapp\boot.dol

If you were on 4.0 you would be required to go through method 1, but since you're on 3.4 method 2 would work as well, and wouldn't require you to run any bat file to prepare anything like the offline guide.

So yea personally I would just go with method 2 though it requires you to actually google and download those 3 things yourself. (IOS16-64-v257-prod.wad, cios_fix.wad, and wad manager 1.4) get those installed and then run at least the first 5 steps of assassda's online guide (preloader isn't really necessary for brick protection at least since you have a boot2 install of bootmii, but if you want the hacks for it or to have it like autoboot some specific app when you start your wii then go for it.)

Edit: And just cause I didn't mention it, you CAN also just run through the entire offline guide as another method if switching around things is too confusing for you.
