I hope the quality is better than the Metal Slug compilation, there were various glitches on that one.

KOF 98 is the best, I can't really say why but if you like Street Fighter Alpha then you'll like KOF 98. The others are pretty good too, well IMO KOF 94 and 95 suck really bad. I'm really just getting this game for 98

Oh well. If it wasn't for the emulators on the homebrew channel, I wouldn't have much use for the Hori stick. I'll look into that Neogeo stick sometime soon when it gets released in April.

I'm not a huge fan of KOF, maybe because its much more complicated than the King of Fighter R2 for the neo-geo pocket color, which I LOVE!
But I may get this for KOF98, as it was this game (or maybe it was KOF99), that my favourite portable fighter, (a hard decision to make as I also own the awesome samurai showdown 2 for the pocket color!), was based on!

but should be more fun to play with this:
I'd love to have one of those...I even attempted to order one at play-asia once, until I noticed the horrendous shipping costs...
Any idea where to get them for cheap?

Other than that, I always thought that KoF'99 > KoF'94-98, but that's just personal taste...

I don't suppose anyone knows how this compares to the PS2 version? That one apparently has some annoyances, like a blur filter that can't be turned off, sound glitches in '98 ("READY...PERFECT!"), and an inability to play the arranged music during the game itself (the Japanese Orochi Collection with 95-97 let you do this!), but I remember hearing that the Wii version of SNK Arcade Classics Vol. 1 lacked the problems of the PS2 version. They were more severe in that case, like slow down in Shock Troopers, but I'm still curious.

Also, a ridiculously brief overview of how the games stack up (based on my prior experience with the originals):
94 - 95: Really show their age by now. Nice to have for the sake of completion and for some fooling around, though.
96: Fun, and about when KOF started picking up steam. The Boss Team in particular make this worth a look.
97: The engine really starts taking shape here, thanks in part to the introduction of Advance Mode.
98: Easily one of the best fighting games there is. Extremely solid engine, every character is worth playing to death, EX versions of certain characters...I play it regularly.

By the way, it's pretty awesome that the US version of the Orochi Collection got such dope original cover art.

they need to have a strong line up on the launch titles too. I think they should move metroid prime 4 to the next console because by now it has been quite a while and there's no release date scheduled yet

  • realtimesave @ realtimesave:
well as far as metroid prime 4 is concerned, the next system probably is similar enough to the current gen they can probably easily just slap it onto a next gen cart and call it good :P
