Gaming Which Wireless Router?

No, probably not. But the stability will be better. Unless you're fine with power-cycling and/or resetting the router every couple of days, you'll want to install a better firmware. That may not be typical, but it's why I took the risk and installed DD-WRT on my v5 WRT54G.

Also are there any other firmwares you could use for the WRT54G? That are good.

Just read some reviews about the buffalo Router and lots of people said its bad and that they lose connection with it. And they also said its hard to install Tomato.

Installing the firmware is actually quite easy.

The readme gives clear easy to follow instructions for each type of router. The Buffalo does have a few extra steps to follow compared to the GL. Mostly it involves resetting the router to default settings by pressing a button at the back of the router, turning it on and off and then running a supplied .bat file from your computer.

I want to get the Linksys WRT54G since its the cheapest and is supported by Linksys it self. Is there any firmware for that router that is better than its original?

KDH mentioned a micro version of dd-wrt for the WRT54G. Other then that no, there's no other firmware I am aware of that supports it due to the limited flash size.

Edit: Also it is very difficult flashing the WRT54G with the micro dd-wrt, as it doesn't come with linux, alot of extra steps are needed at first, some risky. If you thought the buffalo was difficult with tomato, this is on a larger scale of difficulty. :/

Just ordered the WRT54G Linksys. I bought it for $25 dollars but with shipping it went up to $35.43. I didn't use the Standard shipping since that is 4 to 10 days and I am a impatient man. I had $50 dollars in my Amazon account so now I have, $14.57. I now need to buy a USB TO Ethernet Adapater which one should I get. It has to be good and since I only have $14.57 left I have to buy one for $4.57 or less since shipping is like 10 dollars.... Thanks.

Is this for a pc, or for something else? Most pcs come with an in built network port, which is why I am asking.

Its for my PC. The one that I have built in is broken or something it doesn't work. That is why I need to get the USB to Ethernet Adapter.

Some of those USB TO Ethernet Adapater don't run at usb 2.0 speed from the brief look at amazon. Which means they will be painfully slow if you ever intend to do file transfers across your network.

Have you considered just buying a pci LAN card to replace the broken in built one? Some of them seem reasonably cheap and should be a lot more compatible then a usb to ethernet adaptor. Also you will be able to get faster transfer speeds.

Network cards

Nope I want to get the USB to Ethernet Adapter probably because My Computer is really old so that is why the network cards won't work. I need a USB to Ethernet Adapter. Unless if there is a way to connect my Router to my Computer threw USB.

even a computer from '95 worked fine with a pci network card
there much better then these junky usb ones

Trust me my computer doesn't even have it. I need one of those things.

If your computer is older then the year 1996 then there might be some doubt if your computer has a pci slot, seeing as the PCI standard was developed in 1993. Anything newer and it will have it. It's a standard slot that computers have. If you don't have it you have a pre pentium pc that is ancient, or you are not running a pc.

PCI and PCI-E are different. PCI-E being relatively new, just in case you are thinking of that one.
