Hi guys, is there any word on which of the carts work on a 3DS 10.5? Anyone got an experience to share with this latest version? Thanks for your time.

Hello everyone! I've read everything there is to read on this website, but there's so much information, and some of it outdated, that I'm a bit confused. I just want to confirm this: if I want to play DS and 3DS games on a 3DS, no matter the version of it (up to 9.2), I should buy a Gateway card, correct? Thank you!

9.2 and under can use free cfw to play 3ds.roms in .cia format, so you don't need a gateway just a ds mode flashcard (r4i if your cheep, scds2 if you want better emulators)

but as a direct answer to your question. yes the gateway will work for your 9.2 or lower needs

Oh, I didn't know this, but these are possibly very good news! I have a lowly R4 (not R4i) from my DS days, so I suppose that one doesn't work, right? But I could simply buy a scds2/r4i like you said, and install the software there, is that it? My 3DS's version is 8, so that should work to play both 3DS and DS games.

Thank you for your time and help!

ok lets begin at the beginning
o3ds or n3ds ?
and full fw number (ex 6.0.0.12U)

This sounds like it might be a bit too complicated for a newbie like me, too many steps where I could mess up. But if it's cheaper, I'll try! ;)
its not very hard once you know the terms
and yup free is the best kind of cheap

Can any of the CFW's access the Gateway Red card, by chance? Or are they basically running the equivalent of GW "classic mode" where only legit 3DS games still work?

I ask, because to be honest I do find it convenient to put any games that don't explicitly have online functionality on the GW's microSD card, and conserve space on the 3DS's SD for .cia files, especially any I know I would want to take online.

nope only gateway mode can do this

only legit game cards you can still use any .cia regardless

Blah. I will admit, I am mostly considering a CFW to run in order to actually run my GBA and DSiWare, as well as some of those that I've seen available.

But I rather like the Gateway mode. Annoyingly, the DStwo plus would have been my mecca if Team Supercard would have just worked with Team Gateway instead of simply emulating the GW plugin (and poorly, at that).

I considered a DStwo Plus for a while there, but from what I've seen in the forums and now here, not worth it, huh? :\

Actually, besides being a much cheaper option, is there any difference between Gateway and CFW? Any pros / cons?

If anything, the DStwo+ is still a great choice, as a replacement for any ailing OG DStwo cards (like mine, unfortunately). The extra processing and resources available will certainly help with any homebrew that was already made to use it. For everything except the 3DS GW plugin currently, the DStwo+ is a fine card to get.

I just know for me, if it worked properly with GW as well, it truly could have been my all-in-one solution. I might have a difficult time justifying getting more than a 32GB microSD for the Gateway red card, but I could easily see myself filling a 64gig on the DStwo if everything worked as intended. Simply because there is also some great homebrew on the DStwo, and the fact that I could then have the .nds and .3ds roms all on a single flashcart. At the moment, I'm just waiting/hoping for a sale to pop up for them so I can buy.

Yup, I know what you mean. I really want a card that can play both 3DS and NDS roms, but the GW seems like the best option so far. I've just been trying to see if there are any benefits to having a GW instead of CFW.

Obviously the alternative way to launch games instead of just having to install first via .cia.

The other I could at least say with newer launchers is the ability to use and find cheats. Though kinda wish that there was a repository somewhere with .cht files for games, either that could be made or pre-made.

Hey,
I have a downgraded 9.2 o3ds with aureinand 10.6. Now I want to play ds roms - which card should I get?
I'm a bit confused, cause a lot of cards seems to not work over 9.2 - do I have to boot sysNand to play with a flashcard?

Hello there.
I have a couple of questions.
With a flashcart for ndsi xl can I play homebrew ndsi xl games? Or only Nds.
If I cannot play homebrew ndsi xl games, buying a nds lite and a flashcart for it, it will allow me to play nds homebrews? Thank you.
le : as I can see newer firmwares for ndsX has some checks on runned software so the cartridge need to fake as a game. Like psvita homebrews hidden inside base-game bubbles.
Which is the last fw version that allows you to run carts natively, without base-games hack?
le2: I search a bit and I see that for NDSI xl the best is http://www.r4wood.com/products/R4i-SDHC-V1.4.5.html
And I see that in can run up to ndsi xl games.
Am I right?

There is no cart that can play DSi homebrew, there used to be on but it lost its support a few years back.
If a flashcart works on a DSi, it can only play NDS games and homebrew, unless you're using a DSTWO. That can play GBA and SNES games at full speed.
Many carts nowadays works on the latest DSi FW. Unlike the Vita, there was never a need to get an exploit game to use a flashcart.
The cart you linked is one of the shittiest ones ever. Pure bs if you ask me. Get an R4i Gold 3DS RTS from r4ids.cn instead or a DSTWO or DSTWO+ if you want additional games to play
And no, that cart cannot run NDSi Games. There was never a cart that could run NDS games.
