That's like expecting regular people to know even the simplest things about cars. Unless it is their hobby or profession they're unlikely to care enough to do the research. When the media starts getting it wrong though...It's their job o do research.

but if you walk on a store wanting to buy some games the bare minimum you should do is know what game is for what console and know what console you/your kids have. is not like you go and buy the first car you see without doing some research.
if you are going to acquire something you need to be informed or you'll get scrammed or getting something you don't need or can't use.

Video games are often compartmentalized with electronics in general. So they don't have "video game people" but "electronics" people.

Also blue collar jobs work like that. I work as a cashier at a grocery store and they somewhat recently put me in some shifts in our produce department. I get people ask me what the best tomato for a sandwich is, how to prepare a pineapple, shit I don't even know. I get paid to take fruit out of boxes and put it on the floor. I'm not expected to be an expert, just to do my job.

If you want someone who specializes in video games then talk to the smelly degenerates at Gamestop.

ohh no, I wasn't taking it with the people that work on the stores, but with the costumers. if you want to buy something first you need to know what you want.
if you want to bake a cake you search the recipe to know what you need before going to get the materials, isn't like you go and ask the people at the store about the ingredients, tools and the preparation.
I always do at least a little research before buying something that isn't my specialty.

I had a lady ask me today where the "DS2" was and if that wasn't for children then why isn't it in Toys too? I kinda took this one a bit personal because I love Nintendo so I corrected her and said "Oh you mean the 2DS yeah ma'am that's for kids and adults, plus it's electronics so this isn't the section to be any more".

A few hours later there was a dude who was wondering where the Wii U was (it used to be in the Toys section originally) so I told 'em and he went, then lastly a PlayStation 4 guy, eh at least he wasn't an Xbox gamer.

Plus everyone's different some take it personal and some don't care. I would correct them like he did but wouldn't take it personally myself. Each to their own, means nothing in your life so no need to criticize.
