hello. I was testing the nec pc-98 emulator on Wii and I have managed to make the games run at their real speed. When people talk about this emulator on Wii, they always say that the games run slow. I have discovered how to make them run at their original speed without using tricks that alter the gameplay (frame skip). I'm still working on it because I'm trying out many games that I like on the system (shootemups, puzzles...). When I have the configurations ready I will publish it here. ALL THE BEST

I can see HDM files but not HDI so I have a massive hub of games I can't load 😮‍💨
The emulator works with HDI, D88 and FDI extensions. It is assumed that with d88 images the emulator works better. don't worry about extensions because games can be found in other extensions

It's not possible. D88 are floppy disk images and HDI hard drive images. They're two entirely different things, like a CD iso and a rom binary file.

You can search for floppy versions of a handful of games, but most complex ones require being installed on hdd. That means hdi is mandatory for stuff like Yu-No, Amaranth IV... and a big chunk of fan translations that have higher space requirements.

Gotcha!

Any decent hdi to d88 converters?
I know they can be transformed but never use an extension changer. Apparently according to what I read, if they are transformed, they only work in the real system. but don't worry, the games can be found, I have tested more than 5000 games and they are in formats compatible with the emulator

HDI are just DOS-compliant HDD images. You can insert or remove files from them using disk explorer or ND. Some games can be copied over from fdd to virtual HDDs, and others need to be installed (from DOS environment, be it in an emulator or real hardware). But you can't convert a FDD format such as FDI or D88 to a HDD format such as HDI, in the same way you can't convert an ISO file to a VHD hard drive image.

I did a few HDD conversion myself for unsupported games (from d88 images to hdi, not the other way around), and they involve extracting the files from the D88 images, then cracking the executables/data files (for Elf or Silence games) and/or using specific DOS interpreters with the original N-BASIC data (for early Alicesoft games) before reinjecting them into blank, DOS-formatted hdi files. It's NOT a matter of direct file converting, in the same way you can't just execute most windows-based CD-Rom games from the hard drive without a no-cd patch.

Does it play Rusty at full speed?
wip. It can be improved even more. especially the sound and music since I am running it at low emulator quality. As you will see due to my uselessness playing, I do not have the jump implemented on the controller hahahha, it will be implemented

We have been unable to play nec pc98 well on Wii our entire lives. we can wait a little hahahahah. When I have tried all the games that interest me and I know their configuration and have everything ready. I don't know when. It depends on how much I spend trying games that are difficult to find a configuration. For example, there are games that instead of going slow go exactly too fast that they say they cannot be emulated. I have found the configuration so that they go at their real speed. a lot of testing since there are many variables to work with. I will upload videos of the games running on Wii

new discoveries working with the nec pc98 emulator on wii. Extreme levels of speed in emulation by varying emulator options. Likewise, elimination of waiting times when loading the emulator's memory (in certain limits it could take minutes to reach the necessary memory). WIP. and request for implementation of player 2 through the gamepad in the emulator. Greetings

0arsoluto, how is the project coming along? Any updates? Problems? There haven't been any word about this for a while, hope you achieve it! Good luck

Hi Joseito, my friend. The project hasn't been canceled. I'm still working on it, but keep in mind that there are thousands of NEC PC98 games. There are always problems with any other project, but I've solved the ones I've had. There are some games that just won't work, but I keep trying things to play them. Don't worry, when I have it ready, you'll have the news here. I'm also working on other Wii projects, like Wiiflow, with all the vertical console and arcade games that the Wii runs. I'm also working on the NEC PC88 emulator, among other things. The NEC98 emulator continues. Greetings.
