Please can someone tell me where the fuck are the trainers gone? Normally You had trainers of new releases just a day or two after the firstrelease. Can`t really understand why there is no competition in the DS scene.
Remember the good old AMIGA days, when ANTHROX, LEGEND or GLOABAL OVERDOSE were fighting for the best trainer with the most ++++++++++ es.

What do you all think ?

Games are so easy now compared to those on the AtariST (*cough*Amiga*cough*

) that people don't really need trainers as much as they used to. Cheat devices like Action Replay and Gameshark enable people to modify games with selected bonuses rather than using them all at once. So in a way trainers still exist, they've just evolved into someting a little more customisable.

i miss the trainers too, only 4 or so, that got released for the DS (only counting the ones with selectable options in a menu)

then there was, if i remember right, 1 (in words: one) for the PSP

Seriously though, there is no actual POINT in trainers...
Basically, AR Codes ARE trainers but they're easier to turn on/off basically,
(With the M3Simply/R4 anyway) and they get updated a lot :S

the disappearance of trainers is a sign, how much overground the whole DS scene now has become
I don't see how that's relevant to trainers. More people in the boat has no connection to the developers that make games that are actually playable without cheating. All games have the capability to save, which removes a lot of the difficulty older games posed. Just face it, trainers are an old technology for an old generation of games. They're not being carelessly cast aside, they're just not needed anymore.

It's a bit different from the GBA but a lot of it is the same. You would still branch to your menu code at game startup and can still hook into the keypad reading or any other frequently called routine like the vblank IRQ. You have to take care to make sure your injected piece of code doesn't get overwritten now though because all the code resides in RAM and not ROM as on the GBA.

Those clever enough to make trainers (and the tools to automate their creation and insertion) are surely clever enough to do it on the NDS too. There's just little incentive to do so. As pointed out, most popular backup units have software AR functionality and of course the overbearing attitude that any modifcations to releases are bad and nukeworthy exists aswell.

There's been some attempts at innovation but the retardedness of the audience stumps the progression. Example: Vegas_Casino_High_5_USA_NDS-SQUiRE. A packing of game data that does on the fly decompression. Remember this from the C64? "Cracked, packed and onefiled by group X". The reception of this release? It's not a clean dump, this is worthless, etc. Yeah.

When was this? I never even heard about that one, I'm familiar with the concept of ROM packing (AtariST releases used it all the time), didn't know anyone had even attempted it on the DS. Seems rather weird that the community would reject it, I know you're right about people favouring clean titles but people have been asking for some way to use compressed ROMs for years.

Edit: okay I've gone and looked it up now, it looks like the kick-off was because it didn't work on a popular card, and some idiots were distributing incomplete versions of the release with just the .nds file and none of the failsafe add-on programs to undo the compression. So viewers cared more about having a release that works than investigating and fixing the problems with the compression, and it was all over a relatively unpopular game so the people who probably would've appreciated it missed the whole incident. Sigh. Well that sucks.
