All the polygon counts went to something else, so to save space feet were left out. all you get are stubs. You will like see a fix for it likely in the form of a v1.1 of the hardware, if a fix ever surfaces.

Or you can look at it this way. They plan to sell character boots as a DLC content.

realism? in a game with magic and people that change into dragons?
They were actually "artfully stylized" omitted to mask the total unrealism of the game, from reality schemas to physics and proper body movements.

Nintendo was incredibly lazy with the character motions in this game. In battles, instead of programming proper movements, Nintendo just had 3D models slide and hover around. The graphics are also very underwhelming, even for a 3DS game.

Pedicab are the basis for the thing all people know as "style" or "grace" (whatever you call it) in movement. If you observe professional athletes, their feet are always pointed in a unison or specified direction (depending on the sport). Runway or fashion magazine models always have their feet in a single direction (because it's even important for "style" in stillness). Even ancient Greeks understood the important of "style" in pertainance to actions, which is why their archaic marble statues have "contrapposto", meaning weight on one leg, insinuating athleticism.

Nintendo understand this. Anybody who needs to understand the movements of the human body at a professional level knows this. But instead of fixing the character model motions to make the movements look realistic, they completely removed the feet to veil the unnatural movements.

the whole "we cut off there feet to make it stylelized" sounds like crap to me

there is no reason to believe that they cut them out for performance issues or anything like that. It was a choice they made, and therefore it's a "style". And it's not like they are completely without feet. They are just weird, flat, hoove shaped things.

ggyo's post makes sense. it could have been laziness. using "style" to cover up the difficulty of making a body move naturally. But yet every other game can make characters look just fine, lazy Fire Emblem developers. :P

they need to have a strong line up on the launch titles too. I think they should move metroid prime 4 to the next console because by now it has been quite a while and there's no release date scheduled yet
