I've heard stories of people getting refurbs from nintendo when sending it back.

What can I do to ensure I get a new DS instead of them trying to repair the one I have?

If the DS is pretty destroyed, they can't fix it...

Write down the serial ( located in the back of the DS) before you send it and compare it with the one you'll get.
My sister's DS had "accident" and the touch screen wasn't responding so we sent it and we got it back in a week or so fix but NOT swapped with a new one...

When My ps2 is being modded at pacific mall in toronto. They just put my original shell on a pre modded one they did probably in store before. They kept the original board somewhere. I put a mark on my ps2 board but it was gone when the modd store gave back to me. I think that nintendo just use your case and put it on a new system.

I've sent my DS back twice now for hinge cracks, and each time I've gotten a completely different DS. Even if it was a refurb, the two I've gotten back were better than my original DS (my first lite had several flaws besides the hinge crack). The refurbs are also in new condition (I bought my iPod refurbed, and it was just as good as a new one, but cheaper)

Um.. A little question here..
The plastic film at the back of the fat DS, protecting the serial number etc, fell of on mine (due to normal wear).
Do you think my warranty is... wait... how long warranty is it? (I got it since release in europe.. so... maybe it's out already)

Mine has some scratches and an unresponsive A button (you have to hit it dead on for it to work, not on the side like most buttons. is this normal?)

The screen is very yellow, too. I know some yellow is normal, but...

I had my DS phat replaced once, and it came back new, but luckily, not new enough to be prepared for my old school passme and GBAMP with a firmware patch.

I think it comes back refurbished. The unit I got, although I specifically said I was replacing it because of 2 dead pixels, came to me with 4 dead pixels, and was scratched and had a lot of dust on and inside it.
(Phat DS)

Best option is to return it at the store you got it from for a direct exchange.

If you're sending it back to Nintendo just set up a repair
http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/repair/re...arts_dslite.jsp

You can check if your DS is still under warranty here:
https://www.nintendo.com/cpp/repairs/warrantyLookup.do

Anyways when I sent my DS in to get the hinge fixed, I got back the bottom of my DS, but a refurbbed top screen.

They probably said "Hey, why not we combine the two together and make a 'new' DS to sell".

It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

    It's not a Nintendo / iQue official product, it's a 3rd party custom.

Nothing special about it other than it's more comfortable than the Lite

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

    but that's a long shot

i think only the red mario kart edition phat was v5

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.
  • AncientBoi @ AncientBoi:
    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
  • cearp @ cearp:
It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space
