Obviously, the console was just released, but any predictions on when (or if at all) will the console be cracked? I'd post this in the hacking/homebrew thread section, but their currrently isn't one for the PS4 yet.
Do you think homebrew will be a possibility? Will booting backups be our only option?

Take the piracy argument aside, you still have to understand the PS4 architecture is really "fresh" for a console. Only a few people with needed skills could place their hands on a PS4 devkit. It's like taking a hydrogen driven future-car that has broken down and expecting it to get fixed in the first shop in the hood. Give some time for the mechanics to learn how the car works, right?

i think ODEs are the wave of the future. technically speaking, its not terribly difficult. Just need a way to dump the firmware and intercept the way it communicates with the mobo.

sony tends to use their own proprietary cables, whereas M$ uses SATA making it much easier from the start. my mouth drooled a bit when i seen xbone has standard sata connectors!

tl;dr - i expect an ODE first, unless they epic fail again like with PS3 (random # = same # everytime lol)

It's Very Annoying When People Talk Like This.

When the time is due.
Console isn't out for a month yet, give it a couple of years to gain momentum before destroying it with piracy.
Your avatar is annoying. I was asking a simple question, and I wasn't referring to piracy. It's unfortunate you decided to travel down the morose road Negative Nancy.

You really expect people to be serious when questions rise of when it'll be hacked when a console has just been released?
And yes, 99% of this site hacks their console for piracy.

Really it depends on what kind of crytpo is in the system... If it's super awesome it might take 20 years, if it's crap and they made a goof like they did on the PS3 it could be a few months (time for the flaw to be found.)

The trick will be that even if it is cracked you can expect the flaw to be patched very quickly and I am sure Sony will be keeping a sharp eye on such things.

Really though instead of waiting for homebrew on the PS4, I would just spend the money for a PC with an HDMI port on it and run all the homebrew I wanted on much faster hardware and no worries about my PSN account being banned and the usual headaches involved with in all that jazz.

More expensive than the PS4 or the Xbox One but you get lots of abilities right out of the box that cracking a console would give you. Emulators that are already optimized and offer really cool features like netplay if your into that. Online gaming that for the most part is free. Burn a DVD movie (if you still watch DVD's... lol) Play Steam on your TV with that cool TV mode and enjoy steam sales.

You would lose console exclusives and ease of use plus some other features like BD movies and the social aspect of consoles if your friends are on Xbox Live or PSN. (if your not familiar with PC's than consoles offer a real advantage here.)

(Of course this only makes sense right now, down the road when the consoles hit $200 bucks that $600+ PC is going to look massively more expensive, even if it offers way more performance.)

Just before launch.

A bit overkill, in my opinion, but this thing is certainly cracked all over.

I am in no rush and how long it's probably longer than sooner. I think more interesting questions what console gets hacked first. Here I think it will xbox one.

By using the method shown above, I was able to successfully play Super Smash Bros on it. Thanks Gahars!

In all seriousness, I believe it's far too quick to think about "hacking" the console. But there will be a day when it happens, and when it happens, everyone will go bonkers.

Nope. You are asking a pointless question that will piss a lot of people.

Like others have said, it will be cracked when it is cracked. No one will ever know a specific time frame. It could be hacked in next month, year, fiver years, or never. You are asking a question that has no answer.

Well, technically it does have an answer, just no one can know the answer until it is hacked. In fact no one will ever know if the console is never hacked because we can't see into the future. But even in that case the answer is never.

I still find it fun to speculate about questions like this with unknowable answers, but it's more fun if you have a little more to go on than wild ass guesses. That's why I think the question of what console will be hacked first is more interesting. Already we see dissections of the hardware and even that can start to give people ideas.

But yeah I can still see why you say it's pointless. It's not going to stop people from thinking/talking about it though :P
