Frankly, Some of the cartoons today aren't half bad,

:Phineas and Ferb: Tons of hidden little jokes that can keep anyone interested

:Adventure time: This show, Probably the best thing on cartoon network thats still new.

:Original Looney toons: I Grew up with this, Well, Mostly DVD's of it. Nothin beats Bugs bunny Outsmarting an martian.

Meh, I know there a ton more I'll think of later.

Anyone remembers Johnny Bravo?
Lol.

I never really liked american cartoons. I just watched them because i had nothing better to do.(except playing on PC, SNES, GB & hanging out with friends at the playground)
The only thing i loved watching was when the cartoon shows aired japanese anime(Weren't aware they were from japan or the fact that anime existed) like Pokemon, Digimon, Beyblade, Yu-Gi-Oh!, medabots and all those awesome anime that actually had a plot. So, yeah i was pretty much born with the gene that says fuck everything outside Japan that is cartoon. I especially loved the movie Metropolis just to find out that it is also from Japan lol

And those stupid cartoons has moments when they suddenly feel like singing too. I found it annoying as i waste 3 minutes of my life listening to the song without the show ever going forward. And when i was young, all the cartoons were dubbed meaning i had to hear norwegian voice actor sing. And hell they sucked because they absolutely had to sing it when they could just use the american version. And yes 90% of them sucked at singing.

I don't watch cartoons. I watch anime. There is a very distinct difference. I just can't tell you what it is and continue to make sense.

..both of which are under the classification of 'Animation'. They don't share too much a difference other than story/plot and artist. In the end, they are related.

No, I think I know what thread you were talking about. xD The one where this guy went off because someone was comparing American cartoons with Japanese Anime, right?

...and I'm obviously here to be taken seriously.

see what I did there?

Ontopic=Ren and Stimpy, while still one of my favorites, was the beginning of the end of sensible cartoons...and grossly over-magnified close-ups.

Spongebob further exacerbated the situation to the point that my son will be learning to read via old RPGs on the NES rather than the shit on TV today...(I might give him a book or something too...)

Well... Yeah, new cartoons kinda suck, but still, there are some really good cartoons made recently too (Total Drama
wub.gif
, Chowder, Johnny Test... not counting Ben 10, cause that's supposed to be a anime... in a way). But yeah, Adventure Time sucks badly. I love some recent cartoons, but some others are just painful to accidentally run into them (not to mention that watching them is pure suicide). Classics all the way better (How much I love Boomerang... classics all-day long).

Truthfully, Cartoons have been getting better lately. I love watching Ben 10, Generator Rex, and Young Justice (Cant wait for the new seasons). Also love Adventure Time and The Regular Show.

Though....im still ticked that CN cancelled Sym-bionic Titan, that show was pure epic.

As far as Nick goes.....meh, i like Iron Man:Armored Adventures and DBZ Kai. But i think they lost thier touch after the 90's. (I miss all those classic shows i grew up with).

I love going back and watching classic cartoons though, especially ones that had innuendo that would fly right over your head when you were a kid.

Phineas and Ferb. It's an outstanding satire, great for kids and accessible to adults due to all the surprising adult oriented humor. It's intelligent, witty, and has enough recognizable references to make it watchable for those adult-cartoon types. Fairly Odd Parents is excellent, somehow surpassing Spongebob sometimes, if you leave out the damn movie. Finally, Chowder is probably the best on Cartoon Network even though its ended (still airing I think), great show.

Adventure Time is a great show. Not everything is total shit. It's about the same, it's probably just the nostalgia goggles. While I watch Johnny Bravo or the Powerpuff Girls whenever it's there, that doesn't mean that I wouldn't catch the next episode of a new series.
Pretty much everything in this post. Most of the aforementioned cartoons are awesome because they have witty humour that is accessible to children and adults.

I haven't watched Adventure Time, though.

I'm surprised Dexter's Lab hasn't seen much recognition as awesome. (Although I believe someone made reference to it in this thread.) That was just full of awesome moments, the japanese cartoon parody episode has stuck with me for years.

Also Hey Arnold!! Possibly one of the best cartoons ever created. Extremely mature for a children's cartoon and extremely funny regardless of age. Some very mature themes too e.g. Helga's alcoholic mother. Extremely well presented and just amazing.

Arthur the aardvark of course. Another epic show for a slighter younger audience, but still awesome enough to make me smile.

Other cartoons of course, Cow and Chicken, Ren and Stimpy...

I think the majority of older cartoons had a great deal more substance than those today. Particularly since things that were once deemed acceptable (red creepy naked devil) would be seen as highly inappropriate now. Some people have given examples of good modern cartoons (Avatar, Spongebob, Phineas) but I guess others... have just succumbed to lack of creativity? Also the fact most of us aren't children, so we won't have the same level of appreciation for such cartoons.

Baah this whole post sounds muddled...
I'll fix it later.

I miss Cartoon Network; I lost the channel 2 years ago so I have no idea what these modern cartoons you're arguing about are actually like.

But I agree that nostalgia goggles and target age groups probably explain the OP's question.

Also don't forget different people like different stuff. I've seen "Ren and Stimpy" mentioned a few times in this thread, yet I thought that cartoon was a load of rubbish. I never liked gross toilet humor when I was a kid, but that doesn't stop other people from branding it as a classic. They just like different stuff.

Just a heads up for everyone. Nickelodion has started something new called "The 90's were all that".

Starting at Midnight on Teen Nick, they are airing "Rocko's Modern Life", "Hey Arnold" and "Kenen and Kell". I literally jizzed when I saw this. I also couldn't believe they had been doing this since July 25 without me knowing about it. I'm staying up late tonight .
