I was going to use an RJ45 wire to just pinch down on 9 and 10 but that has proven to be far more difficult than I was thinking. I don't want to damage the Switch in any way. Along that same vein I'm skeptical about shoving tools or a paperclip into the side of the Switch since anything not copper could cut the wires in the Switch. I have those lying around, also more RJ45, some spare coax, a couple wiring tools, etc. I'm not sure how often I'll be doing this yet, I was just trying it for the exFat payload. My dad does have a 3D printer for one of those custom jigs but it's out of commission for now because they are moving.

Sorry for the multiple threads last night, they seem gone. I just asked a mod to delete them because I couldn't figure out how to do it myself.

Don't jam random shit in your joycon rail. Just mod your right joycon. I used a reed switch.

The easiest way imho is a little piece of tin foil wrapped around the bottom of the joycon, then sliding it in the switch normaly.
Works everytime
This is basically what I did. I had a broken joycon and the copper shim left over from a thermal mod. I disconnected the joycon rail and pressed the copper shim onto the solder pins basically shorting the whole thing. Now I just slip the rail on and it works every time without me having to worry about damage to my Switch.
Not pretty lol, but works great!

Did this my first couple of times, but apparently one of the pins (4 I think?) has a higher voltage and you could damage your joycon or switch.

A paperclip works easily enough, I've even done it using a bent staple. But an RJ45 wire should be softer and you have less chance of damaging your Switch.

You're making it harder than it needs to be, don't bother with pin 9. The whole rail is grounded, as well as the fan grill on the back. You can touch the other end of your wire to either the rail or the fan grill, and then you only have to worry about touching pin 10 in the joycon rail. Much easier.

Finally, setup autorcm. Yes, if you run your Switch completely dead there's a chance you'll have to open it up and unplug the battery and plug it back in to fix it. I've had to do it once before, it's really not that difficult. The whole Switch comes apart pretty easily if you have the right screwdrivers, and there's no warranty stickers to worry about. If I were to send my Switch in for repair I doubt Nintendo would be able to notice I opened it.

AutoRCM makes life so much easier... no more jamming stuff in my joycon rail and wearing out my pins.

I just use a soft paperclip I found back when Fusée Gelée first got leaked. Zero trouble so far, from the few times I've tried it. Just use a little flashlight, be careful, touch one end to pin 10, the other to the middle screw on the rail, hold vol+ and hit power. Boom.

I used this for a while, but then I found out I was damaging my pins and it was getting harder and harder to boot RCM.

A stranded RJ45 wire will be safer, but autorcm is the best if you want to save wear on your pins.

How did you tell you were damaging your pins? They all look the same to me, and I barely touch it, but I'd hate to wreck them.

I used a piece of tinfold. First, it didn't work because the tinfoil touched like 3 pins, I made it a little slimmer and it worked perfectly.

My success rate for booting RCM was getting lower and lower.

When Hekate still had a sleep bug it was a pain in the ass, because with AutoRCM you always need something to load the payload if you're booting from an off state. But now that the sleep bug has been fixed there is very little reason not to use AutoRCM, it will save your pins.

Just make sure you remember which AutoRCM implementation you use, otherwise if you try to uninstall it using a different AutoRCM implementation, or install two different implementations of AutoRCM at the same time, you could end up with what I think may be a irrecoverable Boot0. Mostly meaning you'd never be able to uninstall AutoRCM in the future if you wanted to.

spooky. I think I'll just keep playing Hollow Knight while I wait for Atmosphère. I really just want to play emulators on my Switch, it seriously seems like it's gonna be the best emulation machine of all time. I don't give two shits about piracy or anything, the homebrew is legit what I'm excited for, so I'll hold off until there's a more reliable CFW.

Can you just touch a wire to the Joycon pin the same way you would with the Switch rail pin?

No, You can't since the joycon would be connected. I opened the joycon and soldered in a reed switch and just set a magnet on top of the joycon every time I need to boot rcm.

I'm probably going to give up on this for now, but it seems like stripping the ends of an RJ45 wire, screwing an end to the middle screw, and manually shorting pin10 would be the simplest temp solution so far.

@Xdqwerty No you heard wrong, and don't believe till you experience yourself. Fallout 4 is one of my favorite games of all time. Yes it had issues early on, esp with older hardware like the xbox1, but it is awesome, esp now being 4k on Series S/X or PS5

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Yea you right there, fallout 76 was a letdown, but it not that bad now, they have fixed slot of issues they had at launch. Biggest issue with Fallout 76 is its a pay to advance further type of game, which sucks
