on the github page under Notes it reads:

  • The Wii and Wii U SD card slot is known to be slow. If you're using an SD card and are having performance issues, consider either using a USB SD reader or a USB hard drive.
  • USB flash drives are known to be problematic.
  • Nintendont runs best with storage devices formatted with 32 KB clusters. (Use either FAT32 or exFAT.)

For the first item, Are they recommending to put the Nintendont itself on a USB storage device ? or the games only ?

For the third item, They recommend to format the disk like below?

For the first item, they mean the games only.

For the third item, yes, but most people do not use the built in Windows format tool. WiiBackupManager can format drives, that's what I used to achieve FAT32 with 32k clusters.

Just to clarify: my preferred setup is:

Nintendont is an app on the SD card in the apps folder.
Gamecube games are on the USB hard drive.

What's wrong with NTFS and the Win10 formatter ?

If I format it as NTFS with 32KB Allocation Unit Size, Will Wii games that are on the same storage play nice with Wiiflow ?

I may just be repeating old advice, in Windows 7 the default formatter doesn't let you format large drives as FAT32 at all. If the tool says FAT32 with 32k cluster, that's what we're looking for.

NTFS is simply less supported by Wii software - it may not work for various things. If you use WiiBackupManager to add Wii games to your drive it will automatically split large Wii images to make them FAT32 compatible. My drive has a games folder with gamecube games in it and a wbfs folder with wii games in it, no problems.

You can have apps and games in the same USB or HDD with no problems, the only thing it cant be done is mods for games like Project M that you need to have it in the SD

Hello.:)

Nothing,but
Nintendont does not work on NTFS Devices.
And if you want to use NINTENDONT/GameCube and Wii Games on ONE HDD/Drive the FIRST Partition ALWAYS must FAT32.:)

Thank you.:)
Yeah @alexander1970
USB devices are only supported if they are formatted with FAT32 format ;)

If just for PC I would recommend an external hard drive like 2 TB and just build your own bootable drive

Although even if it's the steam deck and a 1TB MicroSD I would still recommend building it yourself.... Almost all the builds I tried just sucked
