Hacking What is the best course of action for a 3DS on OFW 4.2

Hey,

I have a 3DS on system firmware 4.2.0-9U

I have a gateway, but after reading for some time, know that CFW is apparently now the way to go.

I was just wondering what the best way to go about updating this 3DS is and what the draw backs from it are going to be?

The main reason why I ask this, is that the card stillworks but is beginning to fail.

It is highly recommended that you not use Gateway. It no longer receives support, CFW can do everything it can do and more, and using Gateway with B9S can cause B9S to be accidentally uninstalled.

If you have Gateway, then I would recommend using the following guide to install B9S and CFW using your blue Gateway flashcart: https://3ds.guide/installing-boot9strap-(mset)
Alternatively, you could instead use this guide to install B9S and CFW using the internet browser: https://3ds.guide/installing-boot9strap-(browser)

Yes it is. If you use it, you can't be on the latest version. You should back up your saves while you can, then install b9s and Luma and import the backup save files. See https://gbatemp.net/threads/importing-gateway-saves-to-cia-games.425743/

You can upgrade to 64GB if you want, but 32GB usually suffices for most people.
