I installed the latest modified firmware/menu at the time some while ago along with the preloader, just following the guide - however I don't know what the preloader is meant to do - can I uninstall it?

Also, it was so long ago that I can't remember how to upgrade the firmware/menu to the latest one again and I'm getting Galaxy 2 soon so I figure that's going to try and upgrade my firmware/menu. Can anyone help?

Easiest way to update and maintain all your hacks is to use ModMii (there's a sticky in the Wii Hacking forum). ModMii is a wizard that sets everything up for you and gives you individualized instructions. While running the ModMii setup just tell it that you don't have a modified Wii already and start from scratch. That will get you up to date with the latest HBC, IOS files, cIOS versions and can even updated your USB loaders if you go that far in the program.

XFlak has made it pretty brainless as long as you follow all the instructions.

As for PreLoader, it's just handy to avoid accidental official updates, to remove the health screen at start up and to region-free your Wii. You can kind of think of it as registry edits for your Wii.

Thanks, can I ask how it avoids official updates? I want to know the workings of my Wii!

Lol Fishman... Priiloader isn't better, it's simply different.

Bootmii is designed as the end all be all wii protection system, as long as it can be installed as Boot2. Priiloader is designed to give you more control of system menu hacks (otherwise you could simply apply patches to the start menu)

That said, if you don't have a boot2 that bootmii can be installed to, priiloader at least gives you some (small) form of protection against the least common forms of bricking (when was the last time someone had a banner brick for example?). If you remove or install bad IOS (IE, User Error bricks which are by far the most common) priiloader won't be able to help you since it uses the same IOS as the system menu.

The best uses for priiloader are for those that don't like using the system menu at all which can then be used to autoboot a specific program or HBC.

are you using haxchi, tiramisu or aroma?
  • crafthp434 @ crafthp434:
    yeah
  • NinStar @ NinStar:
no, I'm asking which one of them you are using
  • crafthp434 @ crafthp434:
    aroma
  • NinStar @ NinStar:
in that case, there is no such thing as homebrew launcher for aroma
  • NinStar @ NinStar:
you have to launch your homebrews directly from the wii u menu
  • NinStar @ NinStar:
there is a plugin that display them on the wii u menu, pretty sure it is enabled by default
  • crafthp434 @ crafthp434:
    so like it doesnt exist
  • crafthp434 @ crafthp434:
    yeah
    ?
  • NinStar @ NinStar:
it doesn't exist, at least not for aroma
  • crafthp434 @ crafthp434:
    ohhhhh
  • NinStar @ NinStar:
on tiramisu you can access it by opening mii maker
  • crafthp434 @ crafthp434:
    okay
  • NinStar @ NinStar:
I don't have a wii u anymore to test it myself, but if homebrews are not visible on the wii u menu I think you can press L + R + minus to open the plugin menu, there should be an option called "homebrews on wii u menu" or something similar
  • crafthp434 @ crafthp434:
    nope
  • crafthp434 @ crafthp434:
    it is L+dpad down+ select
  • crafthp434 @ crafthp434:
but homebrew is appearing in the home menu btw
  • NinStar @ NinStar:
    yes, now I remember it
  • NinStar @ NinStar:
then it is working, I also don't like that they did this but it is the only option you have if you are using aroma
  • crafthp434 @ crafthp434:
i just didint know the homebrew launcher didint exist in aroma
