What does Chrome Hardware Acceleration actually do!?

Does anyone actually know? I never noticed a difference, turning it on or off.

Taps into hardware it generally would not pull a lot of power from to make for a better experience. For example, it may use your dedicated GPU for rendering images or videos rather than your CPU.

You'd notice it if you played 3D browser-based games, otherwise it's a kind of meaningless setting for day-to-day browsing

So is only for web games. Nothing special for like visiting websites, viewing images or.. here.... something?

It is also used for HTML5 video. You'll likely notice smoother playback of higher res/60fps videos with HW acceleration enabled as it will use your GPUs decoder.

Use DirectWrite for font rendering. Should be a noticable difference in CPU usage when scrolling without it.
