I'm looking to buy a new flashdrive as I am displeased with the write speeds I'm getting on a pair of PNY 64GB drives(exFAT FS, write speeds fluctuate wildly from 2mbps to 4kbps, usually stays below 1mbps). I am looking to migrate my memory card over to the USB flash drive from within VitaShell.

I know I could hook up some spinning rust with a separate power supply, but that isn't very elegant. Anyway, as far as flash drives go, what're we using here and what are the write speeds we're looking at? Also I guess it would be good to know if you guys are experiencing fast or slow loads as well compared to internal memory.

Portable hard drives are way better (more storage and faster write speeds) and you don't need a separate power supply.

scandisk 128gig usb stick, some usu sticks or models like PNY won't fit next to the hdmi port.

Can't use any usb cables or anything or it won't pick up the usb stick, it has to be a direct connection. (harddrives may have power supply problems so be warned, must have is external power like a external harddrive enclosure with power supply, so you need a lot of extra stuff) (anything beyond 256 gig is a hassle remember mai dump can't have more than about 15 games with "mai_dump" folders before it crashes when you go to the boot option, so you need to add a "1" or something in the title so mai dump doesn't identify the folder) (also any usb stick beyond 128 gig will cost much more versus a harddrive, so its waste money or be inconvenienced with a lot of extra wires and adapters)

I haven't used it actively, I'm a bit worried it might corrupt files or system since i tried a SD card before. So I dunno. If you do use a usb HDD, you need a Y cable like wii u does?

One one USB port so cant' use a Y cable. The HDD attached will need it's own power supply however as the vita doesn't provide enough.

On topic I use a 32gb USB I had, works great so far.

I usually keep my PSTV next to my ps4 which has a usb hub for USB power fan, so i have no problem. But maybe I'll try 32GB instead of 64

Here's a list I'm looking at. You using the tiny drive or a typical thumb drive?

use an adapter for the ps4 controller, get one from ebay. only the ps3 required an intelligent device to recharge (you can also use some cell phone recharge adaptors, anything with a usb port for a converter)
SanDisk CZ48 128GB USB 3.0 Flash Memory Drive (SDCZ48-128G-u46)

I have this one yes. It fits in the pstv without blocking the other ports. Some Walmarts (its a department store), only carry 64gig max size. Got mine from Walmart, "Bestbuy" will also carry that size.

You are limited to 100 bubbles, I think, but you can create a bubble ("folder") and add more into it, when you reach max. I own about 20 games in physical carts, otherwise, I would need to get a 256gig for convenience, but you could use two 128 gig sticks and install half of your games to one and the rest to the other, and they will all display, that is very tedious.

Thanks for the recommend. I grabbed the same unit you use.

Has anyone run into issues with using a large, 500gb 2.5 hard-drive via usb enclosure, with vitashell reporting the wrong space usage after it is mounted as mx0 or ux0? On a freshly formatted exfat 500gb external portable usb drive, vitashell reports the correct free space. Transferred about 60 gigs worth of vita games from qcma and space is still correct. It seems to bug out when I transfer a ton more files to the pspemu folder.

On the computer, the total space used is 150gb, yet in vitashell it reports 440gb used. Multiple reformats yielded the same.

I actually tried storing games on a new samsung 128gb microsd exfat mounted as ux0, but completely bricked it after trying to transfer more than 60gb via qcma - killed 2 cards this way before realizing things stopped working after certain gb used. Thank goodness for amazon returns.

The hard-drive so far has escaped death, but I am curious if the vita tv has some 64gb limit (official supported max memory card size) and then things get weird after that.

Has anyone experienced this or maybe I should use fat32 or try a smaller hard drive? Thanks!

(I used "paragon partition manager 15 professional", and I absolutely paid full price for it, LMAO. It will use exFAT if you select fat, also, I blanked out the drive label and stuff when I formatted my usb stick................I transfer all my stuff to my usb stick using "flash fxp 5", so using ftp for the pstv, I don't use the computer directly, only to format.............You can try that. The psp library is cans, you can get all the good games with 20 to 30 gigs, but for the ps1 library you may need much more plus the vita games..................try a shorter data cable if possible, from the usb enclosure to your vita or pstv, assuming its using its own power supply for a external harddrive)

(the vita will report total free space from vita shell, that is total unused space, no need to use your computer also) (also please stop using qcma, its the worst software since KAZAA, remember the sharing application before torrents took off? its based on that it seems)

I made a secondary USB mass storage for PS TV but experiencing likely problems with that one too just less frequently.

That cheap 10$ case keeping 2,5 inch 150 GB disk running all the time but while playing Resident Evil all of a sudden game stopped saving my progress. I quit game and tried to open vitashell it said file is corrupted and all other games.

I reset device made installed henkake, mounted and chaged ux to mass storage everything was fine again.

This is happening from time to time when I leave device in standby mode.

I wonder if the long power cable causing it this time. By the way I use a Samsung charger adapter 2000 mAh.

I dont want to do that but if that problem persists I think I'll begin to use a flash memory.
