Gaming Vista or XP?

There's no need to change vista, if your xp works fine.
Unlike everyone says Vista is actually pretty good. Everyone is saying "Vista sux blabalba" etc. but i don't see why it's supposed to sucks so much. Haven't noticed any real problems. Runs well on my 4 year old comp, games and softwares works fine.
Of course it takes more ram, but it shouldn't be a problem with the new computers.
Actually I like vista more than xp for some weird reason.

My system is a Dell XPS M1710 notebook with 2 gig ram and duo core processors; my graphics card is a Geforce 7900 GTX 512 Ram.

Only if the Operating system has been modified by myself using Vlite or Nlite will I be able to enjoy the Windows OS. I never use an unmodified XP or Vista because they all come with so much crap and services I do not need.

an unmodified Windows Vista Install is truly shit. The things you have to turn off are insane. UAC should just be shipped with a seperate windows version called " Vista Noob edition ".

I tried it when it was released as an RC1 and RC2, they impressed me at first but seriously let me down after a little while. It took up too much space and drivers were lacking - -> Went back to XP
I tried the retail Vista and didn't like the driver support for my Dell XPS M1710 ( mainly wireless card ) and the speed. It still took up a lot of Gigs. Even the vlited image I made with most of the crap removed didn't run as nice as I wanted. Especially when you like to enjoy a pc game now and then. The performance is very bad compared to XP when gaming. And for the handful of DirectX 10 games it's really was not worth sticking with Vista. -> went back to a Nlited fast as hell XP
I tried out a Vista SP1 slimstreamed image which I configured with vlite to my likings and actually liked it a lot. Applications booted faster and windows booted fast as well but every APP generally worked slower.
Things I really started to hate were the way Vista opens folders: the way files get sorted is horribe with the stupid TAGS option you have to turn off. Also the way it handles files is something I dislike.
I used this VISTA SP1 for over a month which made me very familiar with Vista's problems and horrible interface. I actually feel like I'm working more on a Mac then on a Windows PC. Vista's navigation makes no sense and i really dislike it.
After SP3 was released for Windows XP I made my own nlited Image again which I am now on since a couple of days and I had the instant " Glad I'm back on XP " feeling.

Xp responds so much better to everything and I can organise my files a whole lot better. It's just a lot more productive for someone that does more then type a letter in Word or surf the net.

I have Vista for a few months now, and I have to say, its damn good.
It has never crashed before, unlike XP, and some new features are pretty good and handy.

If you buy Vista, don't buy a 64bit edition, because some games don't work on that....

Soon a year ago I installed Vista Ultimate x64 on my desktop. At first I was regreting that I did it as the OS was confusing. But now later I can say that it's OK. That vista uses more system requirements is true but not to the extent that it will lower your gaming performance...we're talking about a max of ~5fps depending on the game. The only recource that is used alot on vista is the RAM, you'll need 1GB minimum to get the system to run smooth. Then again it uses superfetch but I haven't experienced any real improvements with it.

The only thing I regret is that I got a 64-bit OS. The downside of this is that you can't run any 16-bit applications at all which sucks if you're like me and love to play really old games.


When I got my dell xps m1730 soon 2 months ago I ordered XP with it. The reason I did this because I like many others wanted the max of my system. But that wasn't the real reason as I chose it because as you've heard a new OS is on the way which is supposed to remove tons of stuff that vista has. So i'm going to wait and see if it's better before I make my choice.

My wife got a Compaq Presario laptop... Vista Home Premium, which we upgraded to Ultimate... after 6 months, I finally found the XP audio drivers for her laptop, and never looked back... running XP Pro, and the system is about 40x faster than Vista. My free RAM in Vista was sitting at about 400MB on a fresh install at idle after booting up. Installed XP, and my free RAM after a fresh install on idle after boot was at 600MB! Not to mention, all her apps work agian, and there's more than enough processor left to run her video encoding while she's doing her photoshop work for school. I will never go back to Vista! I'll wait till Windows 7 to upgrade agian!
