hoo, thoose times i used the school computers that ran in deep freezed OSes...
it was fun... i would delete system 32, feed it with virus, try to break it, but once it restarted, bam, it was back like i never touched it..

Save this in a file

X5O!P%@AP[4\PZX54(P^)7CC)7}$EICAR-STANDARD-ANTIVIRUS-TEST-FILE!$H+H*
Thanks, that allowed me to verify that my AV's background scanner actually works. It didn't work at first but I had to rename it .exe and then open the file in an editor. :P

No worries. Yeah modern scanners tend to only scan when a file is about to be accessed.

Means it doesn't take years to scan like it used to.

Believe it or not that string is a legimate .COM program. It prints "EICAR-STANDARD-ANTIVIRUS-TEST-FILE!".

You can run it in dosbox. The ascii code those random looking letters are actually valid x86 opcodes for a self modifing program which prints that strings.

Boggles my mind.
