Never install VPK games or Maidump games.
Especially not now when NoNpDRM has been released which has more compatibility and are clean rips of games (aside from the license)

is it that as long as you install the games in nonpdrm way you don't need to worry about malicious code/virus that can brick your vita?

To me knowledge, there's no bricker released as a homebrew for the Vita.
The only brickers came disguised as game VPKs.

But, as said by others in this thread.
Make sure you download your VPKs from trusty sources like Github and wololo etc.

Just be in safe mode
And yes, now u should use ONLY pkg link+pkg_dec+key method (u download pkg dir. from sony server so np)

Very much disagree with that. A huge number of titles hasn't been dumped yet.

The reason why "a huge number of titles hasn't been dumped" is cause NoNpDRM is still in its infancy.
I've seen a torrent floating about which contained 310 dumped titles and if you search properly, I'm pretty sure there's more NoNpDRM dumps then Mai/VPK dumps.

I'm not exactly up to date on the whole piracy scene on the Vita but I'm pretty sure that by now there's more NoNpDRM dumps then there's Mai/VPK dumps.

Out of pure curiosity, why would you play incomplete dumps that have numerous bugs including sava data corruption bugs made with bad dumpers whilst there's a almost 1:1 dumper available?
Do you like having rubbish on your systems?

Simple. Because the bugs are not something that occurs with every title, nor are they game-breaking, when I encountered them. That, and because I want 1:1 backups, not "almost 1:1 backups". Therefore, if the MaiDump I already have is good enough for me (as the majority of the titles I am interested in work fine enough), I won't bother dumping or downloading NoNpDrm titles I haven't already. I will however, dump and bother with true 1:1 backups with, say, psvgamesd.

Mai/Adrenaline doesn't dump 1:1.
It decrypts the contents of the game and had tenancies to incompletely dump games.
Several games even require modules of other games to fix them.

NoNpDRM literally copies everything from a gamecard/PSN install, which is 1:1.
The only thing not legit is the license file.

If you want 1:1 dumps, NoNpDRM is the way to go.
Or you could wait until psvgamesd has matured a little more.
That will be true 1:1 game dumps.
However, those have to be installed with NoNpDRM.

Care to re-read my post? I know MaiDump is not 1:1.
And NoNpDrm is not true 1:1. Which is why, again, I won't bother with getting NoNpDrm dumps that I already have (and work well enough) as MaiDump/Vitamin dumps. I'll go straight to psv dumps.

If you know that Mai doesn't properly dump games, then why be hypocritical about not caring yet wanting 1:1 dumps?

I am not being hypocritical. On the other hand, you're being a dick.

NoNpDrm is not a 1:1 dump. PSV dumps are.
I got my MaiDumps and Vitamin dumps prior to either NoNpDrm or psvgamesd's existence. And that is why I have them and don't care about getting NoNpDrm dumps of those games.

How am I a dick for saying that NoNpDRM dumps are 1:1 with the only difference being the license file?
Delete said license file and you got a 1:1 dump.

The original data is not untouched.

All the files in a NoNpDRM dump are encrypted and aren't touched by the dumping process.
It's literally a 1:1 copy of the game.
The license file however is forged.
But you can simply delete the license file from the game and you'd still have a 1:1 dump of the game.

The original data of the game is not touched.
Unlike VPK/Mai dumps.

So why is PSV the ideal format for archival? Because it is a proper 1:1 backup, unlike NoNpDrm, Vitamin and MaiDump.
As close to 1:1 as it is, NoNpDrm is not 1:1.

You're really ill informed...

NoNpDRM is a 1:1 rip from a game card.
It literally copies every file inside a gamecard.

Much like an extracted Xbox/360/PS3 game.

psgamesd copies the entire flashchip of such game card.
Including padding.

Much like a .GBA/.NDS/.ISO file.

I believe psv removes the junk data.

There is a tool that scrubs PSV dumps from padding yeh.
I recall seeing it popping up somewhere on the reddit pages.

I will say it again. I know what a PSV file is. I'll be archiving untrimmed PSV backups, are those are true 1:1 backups. Copying all files doesn't mean it is 1 to 1.

The virus could only be found in Vpk (Vitamin 1.1) and every vitamin 2.0 dump is safe.
didn't some guy make an application that had the title and ID of a game? That one was unrelated to Vitamin iirc. Can't remember what it did though.

Yeah and vitamin 2.0 doesn't, it fixes that. Vitamin 1.1 let so called games like that through while 2.0 were all legit dumps since it had to be scanned and so forth
