I have a virgin WII with 4.0U. Should I update (via Nintendo) before I proceed with a softmod?

Is it better to start with 4.2 or should I leave it at 4.0?

You can update to 4.2 and follow xzxero's guide

or use the trucha 4.1/lower part of the guide in my sig and you'll end up with 4.1 (although you can skip the update to 4.1 and keep 4.0 too since it uses the same IOS)

Leaving it at 4.0 makes softmodding easier than it is on 4.2.

i take it you have never used xzxero's guide , can't get much easier than that.
If you don't know this:
You can use xzxero's guide WITHOUT updating to 4.2 first

Like that you can skip updating and removing the stub IOS, which makes it 2 steps shorter

No, I didn't. As far as I remember, I never used any guide, when it came to Wii. I simply didn't need any. So what do you want to tell me?
