Yes, it can save you but only in combination with preloader...

And with a GC controller you can restore your Nand.

So try your region change.

Edit: But be aware, if you´ve got a power failure during restore your Wii is hosed. Also let the verify thing run through when backing up your Nand.

i just tried dop-ios mod to install ios60 in place of ios70

but it said i cant use it "choose an ios that accepts fakesigning" press A to continue
and nothing it freezes with no wiimote sync i have to press and hold power to reset

Am I missing out something or what... I always thought that 4.2 depends on IOS70...

If you modded your Wii with xzxeros guide then you should have IOS70 [patched][freethebug] This should fit your needs for installing 4.2 E or U...

Did you backed up your Nand?

Then go and try it.

Install 4.2 E or U to see what happens.

sorry i didn't know i had already patched ios70

no i haven't backed up my nand yet, whats the best way to go about it

First rule is DONT MESS WITH YOUR WII WHEN NO NAND BACKUP EXISTS... sry for the caps but I cant say this loud enough...

Go and start BootMii from HBC(press home and select it) then you need to go to the symbol with the gears on it. Then you want the symbol with the arrow pointing from chip to SD card. Follow the on screen instructions and FFS let the verify finish.

Edit: You need at least 600Mb free space on your SD card.

When ready let us know.

BTW, save the Nand to your computer on a save place. You probably need it soon...

no sd card larger than 512meg available until the morning (it's 2:40am in australia)
i gotta crash me eyes are starting to sting
but i will be back after a few hours of sleep with an update
not before i back up the nand though.

Thanks everyone for all your help so far especially xzxero you have all been very helpful

there is no benefit to region change
you will only put your wii in danger and at a fat brick risk

USB loading is the only way you'll be able to play backups and it supports playing games from other regions.

it also might be a good idea to play lego indiana jones so you could have sa save file of it and in case you goot a error 003 you could use indiana pawns on it.

as most of the guru's said, stick with usb loader since your drive cannot have the benifit of disc loading via softmod.

If bootmii is only installed as IOS, your backup won't help anyway

And why? He can restore it as last resort. It´s possible. I did it.

if there's a means of launching bootmii as ios, it can help. but i don't know if you could still launch preloader -> HBC -> bootmii in the scenario if you got error 003

all i know that bootmii as ios won't save you if you got a stub ios60 on a 4.1u even with preloader, bootmii asn ios, autoboot chip. (from experience)

the only good thing about bootmii as ios is you can have a nand backup and you can retore it via infectus2.

so @ peyote, please follow the guru's on what they say about NAND backups and sticking with usb loader

Well, OP knows his options, its his decision to change the region or not.

Indiana Pwns is a good idea to have handy...

yes, 4.2 uses IOS70. But if he's gonna change his region he needs to replace IOS70 with the modified IOS60-turned-70 or he will brick.

Ok, so this would be IOS60 [patched][freethebug] then?

Just install it with wad manager and then install the 4.2U Firmware?

This could work...

It has to be IOS60 with the tickets and such changed to 70. I think ciscorp has something like that. i don't recommend installing just Any IOS60 since it won't suffice.

CORP does have that. If he wants to region change, he should install the cIOS70 from CORP, then the 4.2U/E/J menu. He'd better get Indiana Pwns save installed if planning to try this though, in case he #003's the thing.

As for having a D3-2 drive, that's life. USB loading's the only option, unless he wants to buy another drive for the thing. I've seen D2B's going for $69.

Also, is he sure it's a D3-2? Chips for D3-2's aren't out yet, so having one makes me wonder...

so a drive change might be in order then (D2B drive on dealextreme for $41.45)
off to the shops soon to get a bigger sd card for backing up the nand
not to keen on installing cioscorp

I'd first like to say thankyou very much to both peyote and xzxero, for getting a virgin Korean Wii modded. I'm assuming it's going to be added to CSG?

Yes, the wii does seem to have a D3-2 drive, meaning no burned discs, regardless of the chip.
You can get a replacement drive from www.ozmodchips.com, but they're not cheap (~$155 AU for D2C/D2C2/D2E and ~$180 AU for DMS/D2A/D2B)

And yes, cIOSCORP v3.5's IOS70 is a modified IOS60, which stops the 003 error, so if you want to region change, you'll have to install this with wad manager before you do so. If you want to change your region to 4.1E, please tell me so I can walk you through it (AnyRegion Changer is dangerous, do not install 3.2...)

And it would probably be best not to install cIOSCORP just yet, especially since you can't install bootmii as boot2 (wait till you change your DVD drive).

And thanks again peyote for being the guinea pig, and thanks again xzxero for acquiring all the info to to get it up and running.

It seems that virgin Korean Wiis do not have IOS36 installed, stopping almost all homebrew, but now we know that we can use TBR to install IOS36 on Korean Wiis, to start the modding process.
