Hacking Ver 3.4E - best way to softmod?

My sister just got a 'new' Wii as a freebie as part of a mobile (cell) phone deal in the UK.

I don't think it's new as the version number is 3.4E

When I try the first part of softmoding it says:-

Using IOS versions Installer 38, HBC 38
Homebrew : Can be installed
Bootmii Can only be installed as an IOS
The installed boot1 version prevents a boot2 install (-2)

I have softmoded 4.2E's before with out any problems and they have always allowed Bootmii

Can someone tell me the best way to softmod this one, if I upgrade to 4.2 will it allow BootMii or not ?

What's the best way forward?

really no difference to moding a 4.2 wii

but yeah you can update to 4.2 and update then.

you can install bootmii just as an ios...only old wiis have vulnerable boot1=being able to install boot2

I thought that as it only had 3.4E it wuld be an older model, mine had 4.2 and I successfully installed Bootmii

unlucky....be sure to install priiloader if you softmod

Ive softmodded many 3.4 wiis that dont have a vulnerable boot1. Luck of the draw really. As locoroco said priiloader is your best friend.
As to the question of "best way to softmod" try the guide in the stickies that says "modify ANY Wii" (that means yours) or use NUSAD (my favorite)
