Hi all,
Just getting back into ps2 have a mcboot card. have an ISO and its been patched. Used verbratim DVD discs burned at X4 with Image burn. the disc shows as unreadable in the PS 2, the DVD drive of my pc and is verify is selected when burning I get the error
I/O Error!
Device (1:1-0) ATAPIiHAS220
interpretation: check condition

More numbers and then Logic of address out of range.

Any ideas what is going wrong ? same thing has happened with 3 different images.

The images will play from USB stick

I have an network adapter on way but would like the option to run a game from dvd.

Check the PC DVD drive. There may be an error.

If your PS2 laser seems to not work, you can rotate the focus screws on the bottom of the laser to increase the voltage.
If that still doesn't work, you still have the option to load games from USB or HDD using Open PS2 Loader.

Are you using DVD+R? I haven't done this in a long time, but it was always suggested to book type them to DVD-R back then.

Did you ESR patch the ISO?
Not sure why that error is happening though.
Not sure, but ESR patched burns murdered my PS2's DVD drive. I can only load backups from HDD now.
Yup that's a known issue with slims. When installing a modchip you'd normally install an extra chip just to protect the laser, but that's obviously not an option with softmods.

You can't set book type to DVD-R, you probably mean DVD-ROM (or was it DVD-RAM?)

Hi , was patched with ESR disc paters. using -r verbratim dvd's instructions I read was to leave the settings alone in Image burn apart from lowering the burn speed to x4 which I did.

Thanks

some more info that may be relevant when the image iso is on the memory stick ulauch will not play the image. get error file is not an elf but openloader plays it fine. is this down to the naming convention ? The files are named
SCUS_972. 68. game name. iso

uLaunchELF is not intended to play .iso files, only .elf files.

Burned the image again with windows image burn at slow speed (does not tell me what just says slow. the disc verified and could be read by PC. Launch disc (ESR) just going to a black screen. disc in or no disc in I just get a back screen when selecting Launch disc ESR

Check that regular DVDs are able to be played.

If cleaning doesn't work, you can open up the console and twist the screws under the laser clockwise to increase the voltage.
If that does not work, you may need a new laser.

Had a disc cleaner running for 2 hours. can now see a disk in but struggles to read it. I will open up and do a proper clean and increase volts if needed. Thanks

It´s like Gamecube and Dreamcast and classic XBOX,there comes the Time when the Laser is out/gone.

And then ? You can go for another used PS2 (by the way which PS 2 Model do you have ?) or only buy a new laser (a little tricky because there are many different models),or you can familiarize you with the Netzwork Adapter/HDD thing. With adjusting the Voltage theres is a 50/50 percent chance, when you don´t overdue (voltage) this. But as i write, sometime its over (after 15-18 Years a Laser can rest in peace).

And the HDD Option is a comfortable Option.:yayps3:
Putting many Games on a HDD and with FreeMCBoot and OpenPS2Loader its very easy to operate. You´ll find any Instruction through the Internet. You can use Covers,Cheats etc.Don´t be afraid.:yay:

Its a 30003 model. going to try cleaning today. I have a network adapter on way but if needed I will change the laser unit.

Thanks Alan

Good luck.:)

Be careful: there are many Laser Verions,i´d think you´ve need the KHS-400B.Oh please look carefully on your PS 2 Modell Number. If theres an 30003 R you maybe need the KHS-400R (in very rare cases KHS-400C).Please look on your LASER and google it BEFORE you buy and change it !! Because the Lasers are refurbished and theres no garantie that the Model Number is on it.

And by the Way its an PAL Playstation 2 i´ve suspect ? ;)

Hi, yes its a pal model, cleaned the laser and made no difference. I have raised the laser a little and now plays dvd's. was thinking all is well. now back to my mcboot issues.

mcboot freezes if I start the ps2 with a disc in although some on youtube say this is the way to start discs. If I put a dvd in after (games backup) I just get a black screen , no menu to even try to start the game. the games patched but burned with windows as when I was using image bure the discs for some reason became unreadable and could not be verified. can anyone confirm I should get a menue when the launch disc (ERS) is hit from the menu ?
