EDIT: Are the people that have been playing on halo 3 beta the only ones to be banned?
One of the conspiracy theories is C4E who wrote the new xtreme 5.3 firmware, knew about microsoft banning after the new update. This was a week before the update was launched. 2 weeks before they started banning. The rumour is he was paid by microsoft to write the new firmware so the xbox 360 could easily be flagged.
That is BS, commodore wouldn't do that, he's been releasing the firmware since the original versions. Anyways, the firmware he released (v5.3) contained code to prevent detection via jitter. It's just that MS didn't use this method of detection.
I have upgrade to xtreme 5.3 BTW. It would serve microsoft right if everyone bought a PS3. All its going to do is boost xbox 360 sales as everyone will be buying a second unmodded 360.
Wow, they have just shot themselves in the foot... Predictable, maybe necessary from their point of view. It could have quite a negative impact on the 360's position in the market, though. It'll be interesting to see how this one works out.

I find it fustrating that anyone who mods their console and get caught out complain. I mean, you knew what you were getting yourself into. Playing modded consoles online is even more moronic.

Agreed.
If you can read the topic on xbox-scene. The site is so busy you can't get on. Someone has flashed back to the original firmware and still got banned. Maybe microsoft looked at the hacked firmware at one time, when you change it they know its hacked firmware. Some people have also been banned who haven't modded their xbox360. Rumour has it that these are xbox 360s that have been repaired by microsoft. Not everyone has been banned, maybe its just a matter of time.
