Hacking Updating from 1.0.2 to 3.0.0

I ordered a Swap Force Basic Set from Toys R Us and it came with 1.0.2 firmware on it. What's the best way about going about updating to 3.0.0? Sorry if this is in the wrong section.

Why do want to update it to 3.0.0 in the first place?

I heard if you're below 3.0.0 that is the version to update to because that's the earliest the homebrew channel works on and it means if any future exploits come out on that version I'm ready. BUT I haven't really read up on it in a while. Any suggestions to what firmware I should update to?

Because 5.5.1 is the latest firmware available. You can use all hombrew apps on that firmware(like loadliine or the homebrewchannel).

5.5.1 has a public kernel exploit now so there's really no need to stay on such an outdated firmware

The kernel exploit has already came out and its best to update to 5.5.1

But if you still want to keep on 3.0.1 i think you can spoof your Wii U FW...

No, it's real. The exploits Hykem used were leaked. If it's coming out this month all depends on devs can finish it in time.

Yup, IOSU userland is taken over with the CtrlChicken vulnerability and the IOSU kernel is taken over with 0xf5af5af5a. Google it.

Like I said, I haven't been following much and I was finally able to buy a wii u. I was following the Definitive Wii U Hacking guide and it says to update to 3.0.0 and stay there is my reasoning.

There was an original exploit (not really public) that worked for 3.x.x and some firmware versions below.
That exploit was used by those dumping Wii U discs and by early ODE developers but it was closed (IIRC) in 4.0.x. and crippled the the ODE developers.

Because the toolkit needs to have the functions in it. The libs for wii u are shit quite frankly, and I aint writing em.
